Looks like Hickory, got any leaves brown or green doesn't matter or even some small twigs.

Almost looks like sweet gum but without better pics it is hard to say. Buds would really help to ID it as would a pic of a similar tree still standing.

It does kind of look like sweet gum.  If it is it will be stringy and hard to split.

The blocks in the bark make me think persimmon but persimmon bark is usually not grey like that, more of a black color.

he got it from the brazos valley area in texas. there is lots of persimmon around here

That's what I thought.....it looks like a triple returned superline bow hitch on the bight to me.....but I could be wrong.

guys...i paid good money to learn that knot from an old and mysterious guru sitting on top of a mountain....he was wearing a diaper.. it wasnt Jdub.

ok....enough with the kbot...i had an extra twenty ft of it i had to keep on the trailer...the stavea stayed ..the rope stayes ...no animals wre hurt in the process..everyone went home happy...and the baby was still in the bathwater.....C'MON!!!!!

Wish I could help with tree ID and the knot could be the best ever but I bet there really is 20' of rope tied up in that knot. No offense intended, all in good fun.

I'm knot sure what kind of wood that is. It's knot something we have over here in Europe. Also, it is clearly knot free of knots either. But then again, with 7'-8' of length, knot all knots will end up in the staves. Since it was free wood, I would knot pass up this chance! Split it, seal ends and dry it.

im really knot able to say much about all the knot knot jokes cause im all knotted up a bit....but i deserve em ...cause im quick to point at others that knot something up and poke fun...so im knot  gonna say anymore ... cept noone seemed to get the Gordo reference..yall are slippin!!
