I've been working on a new bow and arrow set for my daughter. I wanted to get the arrows done first so I have focused on them lately. Her school colors are orange and blue so that is what color I made the feathers. The bow string will match also.
The shafts are heat tempered hill cane and bamboo, 30# spine. The feathers were dyed with Orange and Mixed Berry kool-aid.

Great looking arrows Clint! Im sure your daughter will love them. I like the heat tempered look on those, is it just for looks or does it stiffen the spine a bit?
-
I didn't check the spine after I tempered them. I was hoping it would keep them straighter. She tends to miss the target every now and then ;D I really like how it made them look. A few coats of tung oil brought out the color.

Good looking arrows Clint I'm sure she'll have a smile on her face when you give them to her.
-
:) colors are right on, furthermore, colors are right on

Thanks T-Rob and bow101

Those look great Clint, just like us the kids like it when their arrows have a personal touch. :)
-
Nice looking set of arrows! Really great work.
-
Thanks Greg and Howard.
I'm not crazy about the looks of the plastic nocks but I wasn't sure if I could make self nocks in the small diameter shafts. I wanted to make sure they were safe and reliable for her to shoot. I have to admit, the plastic nocks were much easier than making self nocks. I'll probably be using them more often.

Cool arrows Clint. Your daughter will love them.
-
Those are great looking arrows, I know she will love them. I think they would have looked better in black and orange but hey they were for your daughter not mine. ;)

Granted, those are really nice arrows and I know how kids can sometimes get on a parent's nerves....but HOW COULD YOU TRADE YOUR DAUGHTER FOR THOSE ARROWS?!?!?!
Your wife is gonna be mad. >:D She might be mad enough to get a new car for you. Now THAT would be a good trade!
-
Beautiful job! Your Daughter is going to love them....... but uh, there are only ten...... a dozen, is the proper number you know. ::) ;D ;D As for the nocks, plastic, smastic, they are for your Daughter, she is not going to care about the knocks. In fact, she would probably prefer the plastic nocks. I doubt she is into the primitive thing as much as you are, and her friends surely are not. How old is she? Now you can decorate her bow in the same colors, with matching string silencers, and trim around the quiver. Maybe you can paint the back of the bow, blue, with a gold vine going up the limbs. And on the belly, you could paint it gold, with a blue vine. Or a pyramidal southwest Indian design. What ever you come up with, it if is anything like the arrows, it will be great!

Thanks guys.
Wayne, I started out with 12 but broke two while straightening. When it came time for the nocks I only had 10 so it worked out perfect. She picked out a nice black rat snake skin for the bow. The string will match the arrows, orange and blue.

Some guys are fathers, some are parents, Clint is a Daddy.

cool beans Clint, them nocks are easier to replace too
-
Those turned out real nice Clint :)
-
Great work Clint!! She's gonna be one happy girl. dp
-
Well sometimes, things are meant to be, ten it is. ;) next time get twelve nocks, and you won't cause any bad vibes. ::) ;D
Black Rat Snake? cool! 8) Good choice! ;) Of course you are going to have to show us the pictures of her shooting her bow, and official school colored arrows! ;)

Will do Wayne!

Great job on those, Clint. I need to try the dye with Kool Aid trick.
-
Sweet they will go great with that bow your making. ;)
-
Clint
Do you add a little vinegar with the koolaid dye?
-
Bill, I just use kool aid and water and let them soak over night. Then I rinse them off and let them dry.
