Hey folks, finally made another bow. Well i really get why they call Ocean Spray 'Ironwood' now. This little stick is less than 1" in diameter and had rotten patches along the back. It came with a little deflex so i added a little reflex at the tips. Tiller could definitely be better but hey it shoots good. I've probably sent over 1000 arrows through it, it's so smooth and the quietest bow i've made.
Anyway it's 50" ntn and 70# @ 23" Oh and long live the king ;)

Nice bow! Definitely has that primitive look going.

Cool stick Zionator!! Like Cody said really primitive looking, I like that. Great looking at full draw too. Good to see some of your signature work again, I like what you do with the wild staves brother.

Very nice.
I see the signs of heat-treating on the bow and I also see the telltale splits on the belly. This is a common problem when heat-treating HHB that has some depth to it. From what I have been able to determine is that any moisture in the wood gets pushed ahead of the heat which causes the wood to swell and consequently split. To prevent this the wood has to be extremely dry and even then you may get some splitting like that but it's a lot less severe. Being a dense wood I would imagine that Ocean Spray reacts much the same as HHB in this sense

You're back! Wrestling season must be over! Isn't ocean spray amazing! The stuff is almost indestructible! Anyway Zion, like I have told you before, I love your bows! Tiller looks fine to me. That bow is perfect for sneaking through the brush and you don't have to worry about harming your bow when you do! Great job on a nice little hard hitting bow!

cool bow Zion, I just finished up an OS bow and like you said it don't take much wood to get a bow
-
Nice bend on that shorty...But good lord a 1000 arrows? Must be nice to be young! I would be hospitalized :P

Thanks everybody!
Marc i'm sure you're right about the checking thing. These cracks have no effect on the bow tho so i just ignore them nowadays, haha.
Bow101 and Burchet, i haven't been able to stop shooting it! I shoot at least 100 arrows a day and have been shooting it a while. It feels great to get my shooting back into shape!
I'm really starting to like OS more so you guys'll see some more from me. Just finishing another one up and should be able to make a few more in the near future, it's such a great wood!

Recently i've been pretty tied up but luckily the days are getting longer lol. Before i would get home and it would be too dark to do anything. So i had a bunch of bows i could poke at on sunday's for a few hours, and now they're gettin finished finally ::) again thanks guys

It's true that they don't harm the bow from working but they do create a sealant issue. It's a nuisance trying to make sure you get the sealant worked all the way down into the split.
