Title: Osage sapling
Post by: BOWMAN53 on March 22, 2014, 09:59:46 pm
This bow shoots like a beast! It's so snappy I love it. It's 52" ntn and 1 1/2" at the widest.  Feels like it's 50# @26" This is my first attempt at a strunk style handle wrap, it's not bad for my first try.

That's one of my favorite style bows. 2" to 3" osage pole. You really got all the bend out of that stick. Well done.   8)

I thought it had a cool primitive look as well, that's why I left those sap wood pools. Lots of different colors and shades in it.

Thats a great looking bow with some nice character! Hard to believe you only cut it a little over a month ago. I bet it gains a little weight as it seasons. Nice bend on that stick :)

My plan when I started it was to stop if it started taking set. It took very little so finished shooting her in and finished it.

If get a chance to cut another I'll definitely take it. It presents a different set of challenges. High crown, irregular crown, and lots of character.

That's a really cool bow! Nicely done sir!  Just a bit of friendly advice though.   Keep an eye on that knot running across the belly from the pith to the side of the limb.  If it starts cracking there, its not a drying check.  It means the knot is crushing.  If it shows any sign of crushing out,  immediately stop shooting it and repair it.  Otherwise it will fold up on you.  The knot may not crush out right away, but the chances are that it will sooner or later.  Josh

I like those little sapling and limb bows.  I have made a couple that had those hollowed out places where the pith used to be and they may be my favorite osage bows.  You sure got a good bend on that one.  Fine tiller.

Sweet stick bowman. I really like the cleaned out pith, it adds alot of character. Makes me want to do a little yellow sapling.

Love it! Made one back in 93 and shot a doe with it.
Made my boys their first bows from a limb, and still are shooters to this day. Sonny Inman from Ohio, brought a couple to  Michigan summer of 92 and I was hooked. Shoot the heck out of her and enjoy!

Good shootin,
Steve
