Title: Harvesting cherry bark
Post by: owlbait on March 21, 2014, 09:20:38 pm
Not sure where to post this, so I'll try here. What is the best way to harvest cherry bark? I have a tree that will be removed this year and I thought the bark may come in handy for someone/something.

What kind of cherry is it? It is choke cherry that has the useful bark.

From a rotten one, the bark doesn't decay like the wood

The bark grows around the trunk and not lengthwise like other trees so you need a pretty big trunk to get enough bark length.

Shorter pieces work too. Make the strips 2" wide - the seams can be skieve jointed or wrapped with Silk/and or Sinew. Makes a Beautiful backing on Osage. Bob
