I for one think it smells awesome when it burns, very rich and pleasant to me personally. But I have also heard like erc it is one of those woods that you are not supposed to smoke with, maybe because of the resins/oils in it might be bad for you?

:o Man, you California guys will smoke anything. 8)

Ok guys yuk it up :) I thought I saw someone post one time that they used it in their bbq, guess I was wrong
-
I've been breathing osage in smoke and sawdust form for 34 years now ;D
-
I use Osage for the heat source for the smoker (Let it burn down to coals) but prefer Pecan for the smoke.
-
Others have said they used it for smoking but my findings is it is about like smoking over a sappy pine board, not a good taste.

You want the green stuff for smoking...not the yellow brown stuff 8)

Don't know about Cali Bubb but in BC we have a weed tree as we refer to it, its Alder not as good as Hickory for smoking but next best thing. I have have cooked Pork Chops on the open fire using alder wood and raw leaves from the bush. Last time I cooked some Ribs and I'll tell you I have never had meat taste so good in my life. 8) :o 8) :o 8) :o 8) :o
IMHO there is no substitute for open fire cooking..... 8)
