Presque Isle Field Archers Memorial day weekend camp/shoot
Our shoot will be on memorial Day weekend again this year. Come Friday night and stay till Monday. Shooting opens first light Saturday morning and closes sunday evening. We put a ton of time in effort into this shoot to make it the most enjoyable (smaller) Traditional shoot you will ever attend. We have traditional archery vendors, 2 3-D courses, including several moving and other novelty targets. A pot luck dinner and swap meet Saturday night, as well as camp fire fellowship and music. A selfbow building demonstation Saturday afternoon.(bring a stave and your tools)  Sunday morning we have a church service put on by Christian bowhunters association for those who are interested. Sunday afternoon we have our traditional bow hunter challenge, which not only tests your shooting skills but your survival and hunting/woodsmanship skills as well. I really hope to see some of you Primitive Archer boys and girls there this year. I know its a long drive for some of you, but I promise it will be worth it. Shoot me a pm if you need more info or directions. We are located on moore rd Waterford Pennsylvania 16441.

Pk, you could ride the bus to Erie pa and I could arrange to have you picked up at the bus station. I don't see why you couldn't bring you bow on the bus as long as it was in a case, call the local terminal and ask.

Ryano,Will check on that bus situation. I would have to put it under the bus in the baggage compartment, Post pics any way so us me's can see how much fun you all had. I notice a lot of archery Events on Flickr website. That looks like loads of fun I'm still wishn Maybe if I get my Bush check, thats still stimulating the Economy, By going to fun events.

Where dose he live.I am trying to get GregB and Grant to come, maybe you can work on them at the Classic.Looks like a long ride  and just me for now, can't get Greg to get that far from home.If I come
by myself I plan on leaving here Thursday morning as early as I can get away from work ,hopefully
around 9 or 10.That should put me there late Thursday night,I thought you said it was about 12 hours. If I do that I am coming in my little Niss.pickup and camp right out of it,if that's OK.going
to go light.Bows,Beer and a little food.Might throw in a few Arrows also.I will get the directions at the Classic if you make it or I guess if you don't I can map quest it.I really perfer hand written directions
I seem to do better with them,I usually only get lost once or twice when I Right them myself. :)
Do I get close to Davy,Chuck and Glenn live ?I plan to stay Sunday night and drive back Monday.

Looking forward to seeing ya again pappy. Here's some more info.

Our shoot is almost completely set up and run by Me, my brother (PatO), and our god Friend Jim Sudal. We just have had so much fun at the other shoots we go to like hawkeyes shoots and of course the classic. That we decided to try and set up our own little shoot at the local archery club. We tried to take some of what we liked about the other shoots we attend and lumped it all together with a few small twist that we think everyone will enjoy. This is our 3rd year to put this shoot on and it keeps getting bigger every year so I guess we must be doing something right.

We have two 3D courses with fun or novelty targets set up randomly though out the course. We have a treeing bear target. A strutting turkey target that spins. A running deer on a cable pulley system, and a charging boar on a pulley system.

We also do 2 different contests during the weekend.
One we call the smoker round. The entry fee is $5.00. The rules are you may only bring one arrow with you.  We call the shots, which will be more difficult than the regular stakes, the maybe trees to shoot though rocks behind the target etc,etc......you get the point. The object is to make it though the whole course with your arrow still intact and still have the best score. The winner gets to split the pot of entry fees with the club sort of like a 50-50. This year there will be two classes if we have enough shooters. A class for wood arrows and a class for aluminum and carbon. (since there harder to break)

The second one we call the traditional bowhunter challenge. There is no entry fee for this contest. We start this out out by having a qualifier at the practice range. We only take the top five qualifier's into the competion. If you qualify we take you out on a woods walk were we not only test your shooting ability but test your knowledge of woodsman ship, survival skills, hunting. You should bring anything with you that you think you might need for real hunt . Excluding broadheads since we will be hunting foam animals. Extra points will be awarded for being prepared for anything. The winner of the contest will receive the trophy and presque isle field archers t-shirt in his or her size.

We have traditional vendors selling bows arrows quivers, as well as famous wild life artist Jack Puluh, with prints.
We have a pot luck dinner saturday night at the club house please bring a dish to pass....
Door prizes will be drawn for at the dinner and you must be present to win.
We will also have a Swap meet saturday after dinner. Bring your unwanted items to sell or trade......
We will have deminstrations on making primitive fire, tunning wooden arrows, and appying snake skins to a bow.
Sunday moring a church service will be held by christian bowhunters for those who are interested.
Breakfast and lunch will be available saturday and sunday at the club house.

The cost of the shoot is as folows: $10.00 per person per day saturday/sunday
                                                 kids under 12 are free.
Camping is $5.00 per site for the weekend, fire wood, and running water is provided.
The club house restrooms are left open a night.

Ryan, When I left the Classic with truck, camper, kayaks and all the stuff that the wife takes to Michigan for the summer, plus four more bows and a giant smile on my face,  I got waved over at the truck scales, it looked real bad don't ya know? (almost the truth). I ask the little woman (that's almost the truth also) if we could make it to your shoot? her answer was a couple things needed to be fixed on the camper, naturally I assured her in the affirmative, (another partial truth but I'll try). Cut to the chase, were planning to be there if we can bring our dog ( the one that tripod was checking out in the pic I posted at the Classic.)  Chi-Ching

Pappy, The real test for us is the one arrow shoot, I'm betting that I can get thru three targets (I know that I'm being extremely optimistic). maybe Ryan could set stakes for shooters that are over sixty five? I've been looking for arrows made of KRIPTON or titanium, colbot, carbide, high speed @rc 60/61. no luck so far, I guess primitive arrows with self nocks will half to do.  I hope to be there Thursday afternoon, so one of you and Bau's options is to have dinner (Thur night) and breakfast (Fri morning ) with us . I'll start packing as soon as I fire off this post, and remember Rhyno I can help do something also.  the Hawk is Pumped,  GOT STUFF WILL TRADE FOR GAS..... Cha-Ching

Pappy, no showers at the club but we have regular bathrooms with hot water. I could probally talk my brother into setting up his portable unit off of his pop up camper, or you and Beau can come to my house if you want. Its about a 10 minute ride from the club. The weather is supost to be good nock on wood.....60's and 70's and sunny during the day but kinda chilly at night (40's) so bring a jaket and a warm sleeping bag. ;D

Nice pictures Pappy. The weekend just went by to fast didn't it. I'm going to take your advise and spread the events out over three days instead of just two next year. Its just to much fun to try to cram into one weekend. ;D

Greg, I got a still picture of Pappy's winning shot, Just after he pulled the trigger on that bamboo arrow, but the winning shot was a few targets before that, when we all had to shoot thru a steel brake roter, ya never heard so much noise with the arrows clinking off the steel and blowing up, but not Pappys, his found the center and separated the boys from the men, only one other arrow found the hole and only half of it made it, wow it was exciting, I not sure how many of us was competing but it was a bunch, and I saw some really great shots thru some real trash and had a lot of laughs. Yup the Smooker Round is a real challenge and Pappy deserves a lot of praise for staying cool and focused, but also having fun, Can't say enough about Ryan, Pat and their team. I hope Thanks from the heart will do for now.
