Title: OSS ( Oklahoma Selfbow Society) trade bows.
Post by: Poggins on February 12, 2014, 02:36:38 pm
Our OSS trade bows , just have this one pic right now , I have other pics but until I figure out how to convert them from files to pics ( new camera and just getting used to it) I only have the one pic.
The eighth bow from the left is the KCT bow backed with spoonbill skins that I made and the forth from the left is the trade now that I received . We did not know who we were building a bow for so could not put their name on it but the OSS had a certificate for each bow with the makers name and the name of the person receiving the bow .
I had fun in my first bow trade and looking forward to more .
I did get a lot of questions on the skins and how I worked them , I hope I made the ones that taught me how to make bows proud .

They look like some pretty nice bows. Would love to see more details of them.  8)
By spoonbill are you referring to a roseate spoonbill, the bird?

No , this was the Kentuky Coffee tree Molly bow that I built last fall with the fish skins.

Ah, a spoonbill fish. I guess there are more spoonbill fish near Oklahoma than spoonbill birds.  ;D      That does make a beautiful bow backing.

We had a guest speaker at our banquet , Mark Baker , author of " Tention On The String" and his cd"Feathers Thru The Wind".
Mark started us off by singing some of his songs from his cd and speaking to us about his life and the push to spread the word of traditional hunting.
Here are a couple of pics of Mark at our banquet , the first is him singing and the other is the grandson of Ralph Renfro keeping Mark intertained while others were speaking .

As quick as I can figure the whole converting pics ill post some more pics of the bows and of the group that made up our first OSS bow trade , the next one will probably take place at OJAM next year so more people can get involved ( not everyone can make the banquet every year).

I am glad they are looking at other ideas for the next trade. I was going to get in on this years but couldn't make the banquet.

Ok , I've got a couple more pics .
First is another view of the trade bows then a group photo then me receiving my trade bow from Jason ( warning , I tell everyone I'm short and even I forget until I see a pic of me next to someone). Oh and the papers we are holding are the proof of authenticity that the club came up with.

Hey Poggins,
You wouldn't happen to know Rodney Wilson's draw length would you? I need to find out but he doesn't need to know ;)
