Just wrapped up another. The handle and tips are laminated mesquite and hickory, both heartwood and sapwood. The bow is osage that my buddy Clint gave me. Its a stave from his Monster osage tree he posted a few years back that yielded 100 plus staves. Fantastic wood Clint! Finished with 6 or 7 coats of Tung oil, I lost track... 8). The string is an 8 strand D97. Its 66" ntn and 48# @ 28". The lower limb is 1" shorter and the shelf is cut just off center and 2" above the center of my 4" handle. Each fade is 3" long. Its an absolute joy to shoot. Ive shot as many arrows through this bow as any in a good while. It hasn't lost any reflex and that profile you see against my garage wall is right after unbracing, it never changes. Its my best effort yet as far as lack of set. It took virtually none. Thanks for looking.

Sharp lookin bow. Handle looks nice as well as comfortable.
-
Great job. Looks like it shoots well. That handle seem like it is nice and cozy.
-
I just love it when they hold the profile you start with, you know they are fast. Have you got a place you can shoot a 500 grain arrow to see how far it will go? Good job!!
-
Dang pearls that girl looks like she will hunt, sweet one you got there bud, bub
-
Very nice Chris. Sounds like one of the "special" ones.
-
That's a beauty, i love the handle.
-
Very nice bow and like everyone else I like that handle also.
-
That one turned out really nice. Is that the one I saw a few weeks ago? Nice work.
-
Great lookin bow PD! Im liking the way you have quit covering up your handles. ;)
-
Thanks everybody! Yes, the handle is a dream to hold and shoot. I spent more time tweaking that handle than I did tillering the dang thing! I keep waiting to see a little set happen here or there, but Ive shot maybe 500 arrows so far? It just stays put. That means the world to me. All the other fancy stuff is just nice to look at, gotta be a good bow first.
Steve I do have a place to shoot a 500 grain arrow as far as the bow can, just not the weather right now. I shot it at indoor leagues last week and it was still pretty snappy at the 25 yard target.
-
I love it Pearl! That handle is killer, and the unbraced profile says it all :)
-

That's it Ryan. Look different?....;)
-
Now that's what I call a bow!
-
That sure turned out nice Pearly. With that reflex I bet it will fling an arrow pretty quickly. Great job on the handle and tips.
-
Nice one Chris, gotta be a smooth shooter looking at those profile shots and your nice tiller. That retained reflex is real impressive as well, you musta treated that one right from stave to finished bow to get those results.
-
AWESOME! love the tiller, love the handle. Good work dude! Sweet bow!
-
i am always impressed with how little set some of you pros get. as long as i know it can be done im gonna keep tryin. nice bow.

Beautiful bow Chris, very nice work. :)

Very nice chief ! 8) Looks screaming fast.
The weight is also perfect. All the bows I have made recently are way to heavy and quickly a chore.
-
Thanks again everybody! Its a pleasant bow to shoot. I favored 55-60#bows since I started shooting traditional glass bows in the mid 90"s. But, after making a few low 40# and up bows, I think I like it! Its easy to shoot 40-50 arrows and not feel a thing, or have bad habits creep in after 15-20 shots. I skinnied these tips right up to aid in the "lower" weight and made a skinny(ish) string for it.
By the way, the shelf area is 2" deep, if anybody wondered.
-
That is a real beauty ! I really like it and hope one day I will be at this skill level too ! Did you cut the laminations from your own cured wood or did they come from boards ?
Keep it up its an inspiration !
-
Thanks seminolewind! I was given the mesquite by a glass bowyer and the hickory was left over ends from 72" backers I made. Its actually quite easy. Just glue it all together and shape it as one piece.
-
Nice ! I was gonna ask you how you prepare the handle portion of the stave and get it flat enough to take the laminations. I am assuming a bench belt sander ?....Are you using TBIII for your laminations? I have a stave waiting on me when I get home and would like to do something similar. Thanks !
-
I used all hand tools. A rasp will get the stave flat and ready for glue if you keep it level. Don't let the top and bottom of your stroke round the edges off, keep the surface dead flat. I use my scraper to check for gaps before glue up. Yes, TBIII is what I used.
-
Roger that thanks ! Have a good one man !
-
Good one Chris, I like how you made the fades 3 inches long without making them appear too long.
-
Thanks Bob. With that deeper handle and slightly abrupt fades they tend to run upward rather than outward, appearing longer. I sure like the sight window created with long fades. It just seems to open your view to the target.
-
You can tell that bow is smooth drawing just looking at the picture! Beautiful piece of work.
-
Yup, that unbraced profile says it all. Looks like an arrow spittin machine! I am still trying to turn out that zero set bow. I think that speaks a lot to the design and tiller when they come right back to where they started. Very sweet bow.
-
Nice looking bow PD.

Carson I made a new caul 3 bows ago and LOVE it. I have no more than a 1/2" of reflex in the first half of the limb, then it goes right up to 3" to the tips. It works too good man. I didn't change the way I build or tiller bows, the new can have ALL the credit.
-
Beautiful design and execution. It looks as close to flawless as they'll come. Impressive, Chris!
-
Ive chased that profile for 200 bows Stevie!
-
Nice bow Pearlie! :)
-
Wow that is insanely gorgeous it's kinda funny to think that bow I posted yesterday came from the same tree as yours lol
-
There is another coming from that tree Joe, but Ill let the new owner show her off in a few days...;)
-
you're a bow making machine! Love that unbraced profile!
-
Wicked job on that one indeed!do You have a front shot of it?I'd also like to see your new caul. Please.thx's
-
Ive been asked for that a few times bushy, Ill snap a pic tonite and post it.
Thanks again!
-
I don't think I know enough to say "I love that profile" very often, but I love that profile Mr. Pearlie. Thanks and I will be looking for the caul too. I think I better make one somtime soon.
-
That's a stunning bow! Well done, I love the grip, shelf, tips, everything! I'd like to see that one in person!
-
Wow! Beautiful bow!
-
I was asked a few times to snap a pic of the caul I used for this bow. The ruler is 36". It drops about 3/4" 18" from center, each way. Then it drops off to a total of about 3". Its 68" long.
-
Nice looking tips ! Great look all around!
-
Pearl did you use steam or heat before clamping it down ?
Thanks.
-
Dry heat Elijah. That's all I use unless Im bending static tips in a bow.
-
Just made a similar caul for a 70" Osage I got going, Pearlie. How big are the clamp holes? 2"? Got about 3/4 of the bow clamped down last night and the last heavier limb-end reflex will be tonight. Working with cauls is fun, but I need more clamps!!!
You aren't keeping that bow?! ???
-
I think mine are 1 1/2" holes Steve? But not all clamps are the same. Check yours out and bore them accordingly. I use bar clamps mostly, they wont crush the belly. Even a padded C-clamp will dent the belly if you have to tighten them down enough.
-
Nice bow for sure Chris!
-Dan
-
Sweet tiller on that one!
Perhaps not the contrasting woods i would have chosen but still a pretty bow ;)
-
dbb I think we sometimes get caught up thinking osage stays yellow. I try to think down the road and make combos that will look nice when the wood darkens in 2-3 years.
-
Like those tips allot and that unbraced profile is very nice, wish all mine turned out with that profile.

So true,i didnt think that far ahead :-[
Guess it shows my "n00bness" ::)
-
I wasn't belittling your opinion at all friend, just letting you know why I chose what I did.
-
nice laminates. I like the contrast
