I haven't posted any bows in ages so here is one I've just re-worked and put the finish on.
It's a piece of English yew, lowish density and a bit plain jane so I put a bit of stain on her to liven things up a bit ;)
The sinew is deer leg, dyed red and I did a bit of a paint job over it.
It's 48lbs @ 25 and spits arrows nicely. :)

Umm...does anybody know why my pictures don't come straight up?? I used the direct link thing in photobucket? If I try to upload them through the attachments box from my computer it just doesn't work??
Pesky technology! Where's my rasp...

Use the 'link for message boards' link, and not the direct for e-mail link ;)

That's a sweet lil' bow! I'm not really into short bows myself, but this one is well executed. How long is it?
It appears to be all heartwood, right? Is that for a particular reason? I'm wondering how sapwood would perform under sinew. I can imagine the heartwood is better in compression, but then again, the sapwood might be a good core wood choice as 'lamination'. Did you flip the tips with dry heat or steam?
That's a great bow you got there. Sweet tiller.

Nice bow Mike. I have some short sinew bows in the works myself. I really like 'em.
-
Nice looking bow and a real smooth bend, looks great. I like the short flipped tips and your paint job too.
-
Very cool little short bow. I'm curious on the length also.
-
Sweet! Love the short bows like this one. Nice work Sir.
-
Nice one Mike. I have a few short pieces of yew I am going to try a similar design on.
-
tight little yew, really like it! Like DarkSoul had asked, why no sap wood? didnt need any with the sinew taking up tension? awesome bow
-
thats a little beauty, nice work.
-
Really nicely done Mike. I love the art work. Yet another great bow :)
-
Glad you fella's like it :) and thanks Darksoul for the photo help...I've got it now
It's really fun to shoot.
Yes it's all heartwood. I removed all the sapwood because that's what the Indians did with their yew/sinew bows from what I could gather and it seemed to make sense to me. This was also a fairly characterful limb so when I decided to make this bow I wanted a straight stave with no humps and bumps. By the time it was made smooth on the back the sapwood was gone in some places anyway. Maybe having a thin layer of lower sg sapwood may lower overall limb weight? but it's also possibily a weakness?
I think it's 50 1/2 inches ntn.
The tips were bent with dry heat and a bit of veggy oil to stop scorching.

Lovely bend and great finish.
Should have called it a SinYew.
-
very very cool, nice combination yew and sinew

Very nice bow Mike. Is this you getting them all finished before you paddle off into the Canadian wilderness?
-
Very nice!
-
That is a beautiful bend Mike. That looks like a very nice sinew job too. Glad to see you posting bows!
-
That's one beautiful shorty there Mike! Thanks
-
Mike you put a lot of work in that bow...It's tiller is spot on, nice looking profiles.
-
Very nice. Reminds me of a little Elm bow I made a few years ago. Excellent shooting bow and quite fast so I would assume yours is the same

Something like that Nathan ;D
Dwardo - sin yew why are things like this always obvious when someone else points them out!
Thanks for all the kind comments fellas. I like this bow but can't really shoot it due to a thing I have wrong with my hand....it's looking for a new home at the moment :-\
-
Great looking bow.
-
Sweet bow.
-
really nice arc to it!
-
Let he who is without sinyew cast the first arrow.
Nicely executed design, not at all what I was expecting from you. I figured a short yew bow for you would be something about 66" long! Thanks for sharing.
