This is a secret Christmas present for my Dad of 75yrs. I am fortunate to have him and wanted to do something special this year. The bow is hickory 68"L x 2"W , 51# @ 28" Plan on applying finish this weekend...

I like to shoot off the hand but Pop likes a shelf...
-
Yup,That's what I call a real present.
I'll swap with him for socks and aftersave if he doesn't like it >:D

All those mysterious cardboard boxes and tins ... it's like a Santa's Grotto
It's the last male refuge we have that won't get 'tidied' to the point where you can't find anything >:(

Heck yeah! I agree with Rich on that grip and shelf. Awesome work.
-
Thanks a lot Del, Pappy, Hrothgar, Rich and Howard sure means a lot coming from you guys...
-
Dang, I wish my sons could make bows! (Well done!)
-
Nicely done! I'm not a big fan of a cut in shelf, but that one is very nice. Very excellent gift. I was sure proud to give my Dad a bow before he died.
Why do you say it's an asymmetrical bow? Is one limb longer? I'm also guessing it's a stave bow, judging by the cambium on the back?
-
Thanks Smoke and adb, yes the upper limb is 1 1/2'' longer and it was a stave bow. First asymmetrical bow I made. The arrow sets closer to the center of the 68".
-
Nice looking stick, I bet he'll love it. ;)
-
That looks like a very nice bow. Should make him happy alright!
-
Very Nice!! Love Hickory as a Bow Wood. I put a shelf on Mine also. Have a nasty scar across My thumb from fletchings...LOL
-
Thank you bow101, Carson and Mohawk13... Forgot to mention that although my Dad is Superman at 75 and very active he draws to the first knuckle of his thumb, somewhere near 24" and should be in the low 40's on weight. Will put up pics of him at full draw on Christmas if everything goes as planned.
-
Nice bow,i too prefer to shoot with a shelf and that was a cool design!
-
im not a bow builder ,but i know what i like and that is a fine one.
