I went out yesterday aiming to film some ospreys catching fish but I got a little sidetracked with all the other wildlife.
Be sure to check out the video that went along with it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybTKZ6Bi0Is&list=TLKxOSns8aqXsPbpziYETxKszq_tkx--oS
These guys were all over me. One was sitting by my foot while I was filming the other one.

Sometimes buzzards just aren't real self aware... >:D

I thought this great blue heron looks like a carving... then it started moving.

This is a florida water snake integrated with mangrove water snake. Two different species breeding with each other.

My friend's hawk connected with a squirrel late that evening.

And for my favorite find of the day. This guy had character for sure. He was all beat up from nose to tail.

I befriended him and told the camera all about how special this alligator was. He looked like he had been in several fights and could care less about my presence.

Dude, if I EVER found myself that close to a gator, the trail of scat behind me would make me easy to track. How big was that thing?

BBBRRRR If you show me pictures from up north I'll surely pity you. I can't stand the cold. I have a facebook page (Primitive Tim (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Primitive-Tim/135309723292251?ref=br_tf)) that I post all my nature stuff to and primitive stuff.
I guess y'all do have some large critters though.

I love the picture of the Scrub Jay, you don't see many anymore. And that gator was smiling,,,and thinking,, hmmm, one step closer and another tourist sandwich. :D

I am just in shock at how close you were to that thing. Why did you feel safe?

Been around a lot of crocodilians and been around ones that did feel threatened. This one didn't display any of those signs. Alligators will always flee before they attack so long as they're not cornered, injured, or protecting a nest. This one was healthy and had an escape route into the water. Basically I wouldn't be a sure meal for the alligator. It would very likely not be a successful kill and he would end up wasting a lot of calories for nothing. Therefore, it's not going to attack.
-
Well if you say so... but I'm not gonna bet that they think things through like that. I'm not bad a $$ enough to not be a sucsesful kill either. I doubt I could do much to hurt that thing. But then, I'm inexperienced ( and hope to stay that way) which probably triggers my fear/respect for them.
-
Because alligators are cold blooded, they're going to fatigue much quicker than us. In order to have a successful kill it would have to get me in the water and drowned pretty quick. The water in the background isn't deep enough for that. An alligator that size would only view me as a predator and not prey. They 12'+ gators do make me a little nervous when I'm kayaking near them though.

Balls of steel bro... props to you. :)

Great photos! Curtis
