My dad has had many troubles over the years. Struck by lightening causing severe hearing loss. In '88 he had a tree fall on him resulting in two shattered ankles. In 2000 he was operated on for rectal cancer. 2008 was prostate cancer but they didnt operate. 2010 threy operated on him for colon cancer. He was maxed out here on chemo. The dr said he couldnt ever have it again. 2011 they discovered pancreatic cancer. 2012 he had cancer in his blood and bones killing red blood cells. No real treatment. Just a costly booster shot for his blood. I am by his side in the hospital now. Cancer has ate up both intestines beyond repair. After all that fighting, the cancer won. Hospice will be called in in the morning. At the most he probably has a couple of weeks left. I wont ask for prayers for healing but i will ask that you pray for a peaceful end. Once things settle down i will post some pics of his miniature wagons he has made along with cabins, church, blacksmith shop, etc.

Madcrow, spend as much time as you can with your Dad. My Mom passed a few years ago with all 4 of her kids(plus Hospice) taking care of her at the end. It was a very rewarding experience for myself and my siblings...and it meant the world to Mom. You and your family are in my thoughts.
Hospice is the BEST!!!

How great it is that you can be with him, and he with you, in this sad and hard time. Wellness to you and comfort to him.

I had the privilege of spending time on a few occasions talking with your father. I can honestly say I have never met a more upbeat positive person. Always singing and full of life. The miniatures that he built are nothing short of amazing. Your family is in my thoughts, if there is anything you or the family needs and I can help do not hesitate.

Like Pat said hospice is the BEST.
I went through what you are facing with my wife in August. One thing, if your dad is pretty tough like my wife was, he won't tell you how bad he is hurting. I finally realized what terrible pain my wife was in a little too late. We could have made her much more comfortable had she said something. When we found out, we upped her morphine to the "no pain" level, the sky is the limit with hospice, you just have to be aware and ask. My wife slept peacefully until the end after we upped her meds.

Hospice employees are angels on earth and some of the most special people you will ever meet. My thoughts and prayers are with you all madcrow. Its never easy.

Hate to hear it Eddie. Hospice are some of the best folks I've ever dealt with-they were a blessing when we went through the same thing with my dad a few years ago.
-
So sorry to hear that, friend. He sounds like an amazing guy, wish I had met him. If there is anything this community can do for you, let us know.

I walked this path to the end with my father. Held his hand for his last breath. A very hard trail but in the end there were blessings to be understood over time. God bless you all.

l waked this road with my father a few years ago myself. There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, remember the good times and spend as much time with him as you can. Someone said the Hospice nurses are angels from heaven, I can assure you truer words have never been spoken. You and your family will be in my heart, and thoughts

Cheers to you and your Pops! My thoughts go out to you both. dp

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers guys. Last night at 3:45 he quit the fight and went on his next journey. He is loved and will be greatly missed. The workers at Hospice are angels on earth and did everything humanly possible to to make his passing as easy and pain free as possibly.

You must be exhausted. Some tough days ahead of you but time does in deed help to push away the memories of all you've just been through and allow the good ones to come to mind, moreso.
Did they give you the short story about death being analogous to the boat journey? That story touched home with me.
I'll keep you in my thoughts. God bless.

i'll be praying for you, your dad and your family. the lord will work through these trials.
