How do you know how long to heat chert from different areas and at what temperature if heating in an oven?

I prefer the pit, but since my move the roaster is all I have.    It works great for most materials.   Easy to use.

I live in South Central KS. Am just starting to look for different cherts around the southern and central flinthills. Am A total newbie but would like to produce a few hunting grade points from the very beginning for my own gratification. Probably use turkey roaster for heating source.

You shouldn't have to go far to find some nice Florence chert. It's also known as Kay County referenced to where it is found in Oklahoma. It will cook ok at 500 deg. It does better at 585 deg. I have heated quite a bit in a turkey roaster. The good stuff works ok raw.
