So I am making a bow out of yew and I am flipping the tips. I am wondering how long to boil or steam? And which is better? Thanks for any input.

Yew bends like cheese. I've used mostly dry heat, but steam is good too. 30-40 mins is plenty.

How far of an angle are you bending them? For contact recurve tips use steam...if your just flipping them a little bit dry heat will get you there....when yew gets hot enough it bends like a wet cooked noodle...

I would like to make it either. It will most likely make a flipped tips though. I tried dry heat bending some major deflex out of it. It worked, but not as good as I would have liked (obviously osage is the only wood I've worked with ;D) I may try dry heat. I was bending quite a bit of wood last time. If it doesn't how long to boil/steam? I have one vote for around 40 min?

The rule of thumb is 30 mins per 1/2 inch thickness.
+1 to what Blackhawk said
