Just finished this one up.
1 3/16" wide by 62"
50# @ 27"
Naturally deflexed yew stave with steamed statics
Rat snake skins -(Thanks buddy)
Osage tip overlays (gotta take the good with the bad eh boys?.. >:D)
Finished in one coat of shellac and 7 coats of Tung oil over that. Ill add 2-3 coats of paste wax later
I got this stave from my buddy Marty last summer and knew just what I wanted when I seen all the deflex in it, or so I thought. This bow was a typical R/D bow for about 4-5 shots, I didnt like it one bit and changed course mid flight. Not my first time doing that! However, Im very glad I did. It has a fairly high ring count, 40 rpi or so, and is PNW wood. The deflex wasnt exactly matched side to side, but I left it alone and tillered accordingly. The bow is a joy to shoot. Very, very smooth drawing, a dead silent shooter both in the hand and ear, and its deceivingly fast. I havent weighed the bow, but its light as a feather. Thanks for looking, and always any comments are welcomed.

Last ones. And yes, I wore that "Twin Oaks Bowhunters" hat on purpose! A little shameless promotion never hurt a thing eh' pappy?
-
gorgeous bow chris, looks awesome.
-
Flawless! No doubt smooth shooting from the looks of it and beautiful to look at too. Love the profiles, unbraced, braced and drawn. Bows don't get any nicer than that one.
-
Speechless! Beautiful bow! Great work!
Japbow.
-
That thing turned out gorgeous. The skin looks great on it. I would sure like to be able to vote for this bow at the end of the month ;) ;) ;)
-
Man, your bows are getting sweeter and sweeter Pearly! Now if'n you would learn to cut in a shelf I'd add you to my "must have list"! ;) ;) ;D Art
-
Dang, I've seen a lot of pretty bows on PA, but this has to be one of my favorites. The bend just looks so natural and the skins...oh man, hell of a job!
-

Shelves are for sissy pants guys Artsy....and I love 'em! I have 1/4" thick leather shelf on here, but nothing cut in.
-
Perfect! Don't forget to write my name on it >:D

Hey, I love my sissy pants Pearly :-*. So don't knock 'em until to tried 'em >:D!
-
Very nice Chris, really like the braced profile.. :)
DBar
-
Great job, I really like how you got that bow bending right out of the fades. I am convinced that is the single most important thing we can do on a bow to keep the wood in good shape and not take set.
-
love the bow! nice work
-
This is one sweet bow. I love the profile. Great job PD
-
thats a beauty that, the full draw says it all. nice work.
-
Thanks for the comments guys. As always, it means everything coming from your peers.
-
I better see this in next months bom pal 8) .... a classy timeless classic
-
At least you used some real bow wood on the tips! >:D
I think I would be willing to put on a pair of hand-me-down sissy pants for an afternoon of roving with that sucker! The contrast between sapwood and heartwood on yew has always drawn my eye, that snakeskin only makes the contrast pop all the more. When that osage on the tips ages and darkens it will serve to accentuate it all the more. This bow is like a broken drum...YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT IT!
-
Again - not enough e's is SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET Chris. Very nice Bud ! Bob
-
If you think this bow has a chance against Lil' Thumper for the next BOM you are sadly mistaken. >:(
As Ole Roy says..."I guess it is alright". ::)
Actually, Pearlie, it really doesn't get much better than this! That is one beautiful, sexy bow for sure!!! 8)
-
Very classy bow! Nice job on it!
-
Amazing bow! Can't wait to see this one in person.
-Dan
-
Wow. That nocked my socks off. Outstanding hunting bow.
Gabe
-
That bow is a pearl! Great job!
-
Lovely looking thing that 8)
My last wych elm static was the same kind of profile from natural deflex and its a joy to shoot. Smooth, heavy and quick.
-
Yes Sir!
Dang Fine looking piece O Yew!
Love everything about it...
-gus
-
That one screams "WICKED"!!!!!!!PERFECT!!!!!!!!
-
Thats a pretty nice looking bow. :)
-
Incredible job. gotta love that yew
-
This bow is like a broken drum...YOU JUST CAN'T BEAT IT!
That pretty much sums up my thoughts on this one.

Yours is backed and his is not,so he doesn't have to worry about competing against yours ;)
-
Nice job. Those tips really look good too. I like the color contrast on the yew bows with sap wood and heart wood.
-
AWESOME!
-
Like I said before, that is a sweet ass bow, luv that fd, bub
-
Awesome. That bend is flawless.
-
Amazing bow! Can't wait to see this one in person.
-Dan
You know how it goes Dan-O. You give me a cold beer and I hand you the bow and 2-3 arrows. See you at Marshall my friend. Same place same time!
Thanks again for all the kind words fellas, very nice to read. I learned from you remember!
-
Man. I don't even know what to say, great job and I hope my work get half as good as yours someday.
-
Beautiful bow, I would gladly give you a beer for 2 or 3 arrows to shoot out of that.
-
Sweet bow Chris! I love that full draw pic. 8)
-
VERY well done!!
Perfect!!!
Ron
-
Chris that bow is your finest IMO. Very sharp bro.
-
LMAO
-
Amazing bow, Chris... simply amazing.
-
Lol Roy.... ya should've drew in some bigger guns too
-
He got big guns already, I mean heck he could prolly crack an egg with both hands:)
-
nice bow Chris.i like everything about it from tip to tip.
-
Very inspirational, I wish I can one day build a bow like that !!!
-
Wow Chris! That full draw is impeccable! :o Super nice bow all around!! Like that hat too by the way ;)
-
Very, very nice perlie! :)
-
Beautiful bow PD.
-
Something special about a little deflex in a yew bow. Shoot all day and still hit your mark! Smooth design and full draw is what a bow is supposed to look like. Your gettin pretty good at this Chris! Great job.
-
I am working on a yew bow that has deflex similar to yours. I am wondering how you bent it? Steam?
-
Lol Roy.... ya should've drew in some bigger guns too
Oh, don't you worry! The guns are there, all rightey! A matched pair of Daisey Red Riders.
-
wow. BOM?
-
Pearly you out did yourself !!!
To bad it is made out of that inferior bow wood !
But what does a worthless old nut know anyway !
-
Glad you finally posted it! Looks great!
-
Great Bend! I like this one a lot 8)
-
Beautiful bow in all aspects, you know that has to be a smooth shooter. :) Pappy
-
Thanks for all the compliments guys. I really appreciate it.
WB99, steam was used for the statics.
I shot the bow a bit more yesterday before the storms rolled in. Yew is the most deceiving wood Ive used. It doesn't feel powerful when you draw the bow, but boy does that arrow come off when you let the string go!
-
I'm so noob that I feel shy even at making compliments but i cant skip this beauty.
Really gorgeous bow man!!!
-
You might be new, but there's nothin wrong with eyesight. Chris is one of the topshelf self bow builders here.
-
Nice. Very nice...
OneBow
-
I have yet to build anything of that caliber but I do aspire to that level. But like GlisGlis and Stringman said that's one beautifully built bow and ain't nothing wrong with my eyesight either!
-
Once again, you have made a beautiful piece of art. Excellent!
-
Build a couple more of these and you won't even remember that yellow stuff. >:D >:D
Gabe

Gabe
Now Im mad!!!!!! Funny your mentioning that Mr. Gabe ;D. I was talkin' amongst my real (osage) friends and told them yew was killer wood, I loved it, its fast, its easy as pie to work and its light weight. But its not osage, never will be, never can be. Even with all its flaws? Any osage can make good bows just the same. Not just one side or the other of the branch, not just thin rings, not just high elevation. None of that monkey business yew requires, no sir. Its all good bow wood if its yellow!:) Buts thats for another thread.. >:D
I do love yew!....just not as much as King Yellow!
Thanks for all the compliments again fella's. The bow is a real joy to shoot and I love it.....for now..;)
-
"Thanks for all the compliments again fella's. The bow is a real joy to shoot and I love it.....for now..;)"
I think all the guys were just trying to be nice to you Pearly! >:D
Hey, you should send that bow to me for independent testing, then I could set 'em straight for you. ;)...........Art
-
I agree that yew needs to be babied up a little bit. It's not plum after all. But, it is magic wood. When the stars align, a yew bow feels alive in the hand.
Gabe
-
Hahahahahahaha! I love it Gabe! That plum reference was awesome!
-
;)
-
Love my osage, but as far as longbows goe nothing beats yew 8) and a yew static is tough to best with other woods as well IMHO 8) ....
Gabe your gonna have to send me some plum, cus I'm plum tired of hearing how great it is
-
Been out of pocket for a bit. Glad I didn't miss this. Very nice Sir. Dressed too kill, and that full draw looks awesome.
-
That turned out real nice!
-
I've been back about 5 times to look at this beauty!
The sapwood looks like white chocolate, and it looks
good enough to eat! I've never worked with osage,
but I must say that there is something magical and
mysterious about well worked yew.
Seeing as you forsee getting tired of it in the near
future, how many Shinto rasps or arrow bamboo
shafts would it take you to ship it overseas?
Japbow.
-
Damn PD that is impressive!!! :o
-
That may be my favorite profile - i bet it's a sweet shooter. Your finishing work is flawless, as usual. Very nice.
-
Meh it's alright I guess ;) >:D
-
And once again, thanks for all the compliments guys. It feels great knowing you all appreciate what you see. Its hard to build bow after bow and have nobody, in person, to see and appreciate them from a bowyers view point. Its all pictures and the internet until summer shoots/camp outs start up again and we all catch up in person. Sure, my wife thinks, "oooh that's pretty" . But she doesn't see the bow, just the clothing on it!
-
Now I really do love that hat! I have 3 like it. ;)
Bow looks sweet also!
-
Ive been waiting since last spring when I got that hat to make a bow good enough to wear it with Jon! Im hoping this is the right one.
-
Oh my oh my oh my! :o. I do believe you've outdone yourself pearly! Wow! Josh
-
That bow is a head turner. I keep finding myself coming back and revisiting your pictures.
-
Chris, another great job! :D
-
Oh my oh my oh my! :o. I do believe you've outdone yourself pearly! Wow! Josh
Phone pics just don't cut it do they trucker? Brycey boys new bow sure looks different up here than on my phone! WOW!
-
I missed this one. This is a beauty.I like everything about this bow.It even has a look of "forgiveness" to it with the deflexed shape.I bet it'll put em right where you're lookin',(even with a shooting error).Great job on that bow Pearl Drums. God Bless
-
G'day Pearl Drums,
Mate, this bow is so sexy in every way and all of the figures come up to something that I would shoot. I would love to be the proud owner of that and take it deer hunting so, you must be proud of it-ENJOY.
Cheers, Deerslayer.
-
Exceptional tiller and nice detail as usual Chris...
-
Huh...I missed this one, too. How'd that happen? It's VERY nice.
-
Don't know how I missed this one. Beautiful bend, as always.
Russ
-
Just when you think yew bows can't get any prettier.... :)
-
She is a beauty
-
PD, that has to be one of the nicest looking bows I've ever set eyes upon. Only one question and that is regarding the static tips, How? Try as I might I can't seem to get the bend I'm looking for whether boiling, steaming or dry heat on any wood.
-
I may have already commented on this idk but wow that is just insane how perfect your tiller is on every bow you post Just outrageously gorgeous
-
Me likes
-
OMG what a piece of art!!!! I'm slavering like a wolf!!
-
Meh, I suppose she's ok ;) >:D
-
Nicely done.
-
Sweet, that is a beauty for sure.Very nice job in all aspects, bet it is smooth and fast. Love the hat also. ;) ;D ;D
Pappy
-
I cant say anything that have not allready been said;-)
But...would it be possible to get a close up of the nocks?. I cant quite figure out how you did those...looks like a short bend counter the recurve?
Cheers
-
Its alive! This thread came back to life.
Thanks again fella's. It means a lot to me to read these comments, very flattering.
-
Beautiful bow PD!! Not sure how I missed it the first time around :o
-
Just beautiful!
-
Here she comes again !
Congratulations Pearly!

Thanks again fella's. It means a lot to me to read these comments, very flattering.
Between this bow and the BOY, you are gonna need a bigger hat.
Are you working on a deal with the History Channel for your own reality show now? Kind of a Duck Dynasty meets This Old House with a little of Billy Berger's influence with Naked and Afraid???
Despite all the crap I am throwing out your way, I would actually watch a reality show with you in it, Chris. Your passion for this craft is evident in how each and every bow turns out as well as how you treat people here. Kudos to you, brother of the bow.
Ok, how's this for an idea....kinda like Cody Lunden, and whats-his-name with the Dual Survivor thing? You and PrimitiveTim making bows together....Tag Team Tiller! You got the whole urban bowmaking thing going on and he's hippy-man in he Florida swamps, you are making trades for primo staves and he's pulling dead peacocks outa the dumpster! Gotta admit, it's brilliant!
-
Your bows are consistent, balanced, and beautifully crafted, Chris. I learn a lot by just looking at them.
George
-
Love this bow. Like the look of the snakeskins on the yew. Did you stain the back to get the colours to show like that?
-
No stain Richard. The skins had all the color. Ive used a lot of rat snake skins, I love them. They seem to vary quite a bit from state to state.
-
Your craftsmanship is stunning !!!!
And inspirational....
Everytime I see one of your creations I am amazed..
You are at the top of the heap !
-
Tiller looks fantastic!!!
-
That is one nice looking bow.
-
Woo that's sweet, gorgeous full draw shot.
i like the drawn in ears too
Del
-
Holy smokes, you were good when I left but then you went and got Damn Good! Beautiful work!
-
Hey thanks Nate! The last few years and few hundred bows things really started adding up and making sense to me. I was still green when I first ticked you off! Sorry for that by the way. Ignorance lead the way on that!
-
Haha, I don't even remember what ticked me off but it's clear that when I left we were both learners, and now you are the master. (Vader voice)
-
It was about me thinking the core grain didn't matter on a backed bow if the backing was good, WRONG!
Master? Heck no, Ive got miles and miles to go.
-
just checked out your bow....its all been said already, but nice bow with a very good tiller..congrats..
