Title: Amount of sinew needed?
Post by: kevinsmith5 on November 11, 2013, 11:54:20 pm
Suppose you're backing a pyramid bow, 60" long, 1-1/2" at fades, 1/2" tips. How much sinew do you need? I probably need the answer in "x number of deer legs or y back straps".

For a bow of that dimension, I would get a dozen backstrap sinews prepared.  There would be some left over, but I HATE running out of sinew on a job!  That should get you two layers with good overlap.

I don't know how many leg sinews because those are either dog chews or I make hide glue out of them.   >:D

Keep a large bucket of soapy warm water handy, along with lotsa towels!  Helps cut down on the "everything sticks to my hands" syndrome!
