I had gotten this bow braced a few months ago and then let it sit in the corner. Recently I retillered it a bit and took the weight down. This bow makes me even more impressed with OS because there's a huge check in the back of the bow on the bottom fade. Shoots very well although it stacks a little. Sorry guys but Ocean Spray is the king, at least in my book ;)
50" ntn

Dang Zionator you can put an arc in a bow with the best of em'. That a dandy there bud.
-
Very nice.... looks like a hunter!!!
-
Awesome. How wide is it? How dry is it?
-
Thanks for the kind words everyone! Steve the fades are about 1 1/2" wide and the wood was seasoned for pretty close to a year. However it was dried in roughed out form for almost the whole time. it got the big check after i took the bark off but seemed to dry faster than ones i keep whole. Here's a link to the drying set up i had: http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index.php/topic,35162.msg463040.html#msg463040

Sweet bow man. Way to get that much weight out of her. Dig in the arrow too. :)
-
A little snake to boot on your bow there.Nice.
-
Very nice bend on that stick!
-

-
Killer job man. Makes me wanna try some of that wood.
-
Wow! That crack is crazy, and that much #? Great tiller and cool bow. Gotta try that wood someday!
-
Sweet bend in that stout stick of OS. I love that you just left that huge check in there without repair. Looks great and is testimony to the toughness of that wood!
-
When you wrote huge check, I still wasnt prepared for one like that. Looks cool, and as said before, great bend.
-
Just out of curiosity, when you draw the bow can you see any movement in that check? Does it get wider or narrower or just sit there?

Don ya ever finish that OS you were picking away at...? By the way "Zee" she looks great as always.

If you mean the short one that I bellied with Ipe, the Ipe chrysaled so it became firewood. Now I have a half dozen OS staves drying. Maybe after Christmas I can start making chips. I thought you were supposed to get more patient with age. I just keep thinking that I'm running out of time ;)
-
not bad kid, not bad at all :) fantastic even.
oceanspray is one of those woods that CANNOT break. ive taken 3/4'' staves and dang near bent them in half and they barely splintered. its just one of those woods that doesnt get enough credit, like osoberry.
-
Yup OS is amazing stuff. Need bigger pieces and try to cut thin lams out of it for backing. ..

The OS over powered the Ipe. OS should be fine by itself. Natives on the West coast used to make hooks and spikes from it. Many nick name it here (Iron Wood) It would make an excellent prod for a Xbow.

Nice one, good looking bend, straightforward bow. 8)

You are right! Ocean spray is an amazing bow wood! You did a great job on that one, bend and crack and all! good job on that tiller too! All together great job Zion! Dale
-
Thanks alot guys! Yes this wood is amazing and is still pretty underrated. :o
Don, I haven't noticed much movement in the crack but i'll check on it.
Thanks Bryce, and it's funny how common it is, i guess some people don't see future bows in little OS bushes ;D
Again thanks for the nice words!
-
nice work, looks pretty flawless in the tiller man.
-
Very cool bow Zion! Your bows are always cool! Josh
-
love your bows and this is another no nonsense nice bending beast.
