Hello fellas. Here's a 60.5" NTN snakey centershot hickory I made around the time I made the other 2 snakey hickories I posted a while back.Somewhere around a 60/40 ratio.1and3/8" at the fade and 7/16" thick midlimb.10" stiff levers to 7/16" tips.Horn overlays. It was my favorite for quite a while.I took it with me to 7 or 8 3D shoots and stump shot it a lot so there's at least 1000 arrows through it.It likes my 55# spine firs and tonkins.Did'nt have this digital camera at the time I made it.Heat treated belly.Stout piece of wood hovering with a 1/4" of soft set after shooting returns to 1/4" resting set back in two hours.54#@28".Highlited the bow with charcoal grey & light brown alcohol dye.Leather wrap handle.Weighs 16.35 oz.as is.Before handle and finish somewhere in the low 15.00s' oz. before.Very quiet bow and fun to shoot. Thanks for looking.
First at rest

Full draw
-
Sweet. Very nice work.
-
My little homemade arm bracer I made out of beef rawhide and brain tan leather.Been using it for 4 years now.
-
very cool.i like it a lot.
-
Thanks Blaflair2.Good luck with yours.
-
Thanks seabass. How's them flight bows doing?
-
Nice!! Bend is great. Colors are nice. I love the "muscle" on the back. Most of my hickory has that characteristic and I think it adds a lot of character to the bow. Especially when you finish it out so it highlighted like you have. Well done.
-
Sharp looking bow. I like the character on the back.
-
Beadman,
That is one awesomely sweet piece of hickory you have there...man o man...That bow out of hickory with zero set! And levers to boot...Excellent work 8)
-
Awesome. Starting my first this weekend.......
-
I really like that one. Looks very clean and pleasant to shoot
-
Thanks fellas. The heat treatment put it's dimensions close to what osage usually has but without the mass weight.Stout little piece of hick. This bow was shot through the summer.High humidity, heat, and stringing time.Did'nt lose cast or take more set like I've heard it said a lot of times on here about hickory.Course it still has a lot of arrows to shoot yet though.
-
Nice work as usual Beadman, you are a bow making machine
-
Looking good ,beadman!
-
That's a fine looking but of kit. Very nice 8)
-
Thanks again fellas.I appreciate the comments.I kept waiting for the bow to bow to the string more during tillering but it held it's own.
-
What's not to like about that, sounds and looks like you did everything just perfect.
-
Thanks rps3.I'm my own worst crtic sometimes, but it still ai'nt perfect.Guess if you make enough bows sometimes you come closer to what you want.I should be a hunting with it but this black locust I made lately has come into the favorite postion at the moment, but it operates about the same with close to the same profiles etc.
-
Everything looks great Ed..........BUT ya might wanna change that shirt before walking into the woods ... ::)
-
I really love the shape of the handle area. And the stain is nice on the eyes as well. Great work all the way around.
-
Like it. Very cool. Hickory with rough back. The stain work is excellent. The back of the bow has lovely character. I've only made hickory board bows.
:-)
-
Bowman...Hick boards are good.Made a few with bamboo backing that made really nice bows using an R/D design & I think a couple of perry reflexed too.Fresh cut & debarked staves of this hickory will give you this kind of back.
Tim Potter....Thanks,just so the deer think so too.....LOL.
blackhawk....Yea I know, but it's my favorite saddle blanket flannel shirt.I just put my leafy hooded jacket over it and go.In fact more than that shirt under it now it's getting in the low 30s' in the mornings here.
-
Very fine bow you got there sir. As I told my brother after spending time with you at MoJam this year. Now that is a REAL bowyer!!
Thanks for all the good advice given to us while visiting.
Greg,

Real nice Beadman. I like that one a lot, looks great and I'd guess it spits an arrow well to boot. The grainy looking back is something I've always dug, had a couple black walnut bows I made with the same look. You finished yours
off very well and kinda wish I hadn't given those two walnut bows away, now I miss em' after seeing these pics. :)
-
Greg....Yes I remember you, your brother and his wife at Mo Jam.That was fun.Glad you spoke up here.Your a bit too kind with your compliments. There's a lot out there to learn yet but it's fun trying most times.....LOL.Are you pulling any shavings?
BB...Just make yourself another one.Whenever I give one away I eventually try to make another only better the next time.I like the backs on them bows too.It always kinda looks like to me they were just plucked right out of the tree.In a way they were.....LOL.

Sweet..awesome finish work and dye job-Hammertime
-
Thanks hammertime.
-
Great looking bow, super nice back and the handle is just right for it.
-

+1 great looker.

Thanks fellas.I''ve seen your bows too and appreciate the comments.
-
Very nice job, should spit an arrow. :)
Pappy
-
Thanks pappy.Seen the snake bows you've put out too.Sweet.Seems like it's almost as hard to find those nice snakey osage staves as it is a straight piece.
-
Very nice Sir. Looks great , bound to be fast.
-
Gotta love the texture on the back! Good looking bow.
-
Thanks fellas.I appreciate it.As you've probably heard me say on here before I try to get the most out of the wood I'm working on and yet have it be durable. That's just me.Here's another reason why.
I shoot at these 3D shoots 6 - 8 times a year with a group of fellas that mostly carry FG bows and one carrys a compound too yet.We have fun joshing on the hits as well as the misses. Some have made self bows but when it comes time to go hunting they grab the FG bow. They have given up on joshing me about distance, speed, and accuracy of my self bows. They know better. To me they are quitters. They've never heard me say to them..... Ohhh that's not fair.I won't give them the satisfaction.I think I can learn more about the making bows using natural materials then they can taking the easier route of man made materials.

This bow is a piece of art. Like the color and the structure in the back. Nice job. :-)
-
wow ,luv it!!!
-
Ed, I like the way you think about FG bows vs. Selfbows.
That Hickory bow is very nice, I love the back! and the levers. One of these days that is on the list of bows to build.
Great Job!
