Title: Robbie's Hunting arrows for this year
Post by: H Rhodes on September 28, 2013, 02:46:52 pm
I showed this guy how I made my own cane arrows last winter.  He had previously been bit by the bow building bug and I helped to get him started with that.  He has since built a few bows, one 65lb. beast of an osage flat bow.....but that is another story.  He has become as good an arrow builder as I have met - far surpassing his old mentor.  I agreed with him to keep him in bows if he would keep me in arrows!   He just showed me his arrows for this hunting season and I was so proud of his skill that I had to post these for him.  Maybe Robbie will get on here before long.  Here is some of his work.

Nice looking arrows!  What material are they?  In the top pic they look a bit thicker than usual but might be because of the material.

The top three are cane.  The bottom photo shows cane, poplar, and oak shafting.   Those top three are heavy hunting arrows, maybe 650 grains.   We have noticed that the cane we are cutting that grows in the full sunshine, like under powerline right-of-ways, makes a much better arrow.

Sturdy and deadly looking arrows there. I notice a couple of the points are what would be considered barbed, can you guys use those on deer in alabama Howard? I know we can't here in IL.

Same rule here in Alabama Greg.  He is still sort of new at making his own tradepoints.  Opening day, those barbed points will have stay home.  Good eye brother - you could be a game warden  ;D
