Title: coachwhip advice
Post by: BOWMAN53 on September 05, 2013, 10:54:40 pm
I got some coachwhip skins from 4dog in our trade. I know it's basically see through when descaled, so my question is, what do you guys do to make them"pop"some more.

You could paint a pattern underneath.  Heck, you could use flourescent colors, too.  The skins would mute them a bit.

Another tip, use a fine line black marker to outline any of the lighter colors.  Really makes them stand out.  I did that with those fabric fake copperhead skins you can get in 3Rivers catalog.  Made 'em look pretty wild.

My little 47" sinew backed osage has coachwhip skins on it. I just added them over the sinew not knowing what to expect. I love the look. I use hide glue for the sinew and skin. No real pattern but the lighter color and obvious scale scars gives it a cool but muted look.
