Fellas,
Awhile ago I was gifted with a real nice Pecan stave from Mr. hrhodes and been waiting for the "right" type of bow for it. After making the Chickasaw 5 curve I really like the shape and this stave was almost there already so thought I would make a short 5 curve from Pecan.
The stave had a funky whoopdy doo at one end so I flipped the other end to sort of match and had a fun time trying to get the even circle tiller. The bow also had a minor "S" curve from the front profile but the string tracked center of the grip, so it got left in.
The bow came in a little light for my liking but that was my fault and not the wood.[ NOTE: don't get too cocky going from one kind of wood to another ] Haven't put any decoration on it yet but damned if it aint fun to shoot, got to decide what to do with her first.
Enjoy the pics, and thank you Mr. Rhodes, pecan is absolutely tough and first class bow wood. Pic #4 shows the "s" curve.

WOW! That is awesome!
27" out of a 48" bow!!!! Great job sir!

Nice little shorty that would surely make meat :D I'm going to have to investigate the 5 curve(also gullwing?) technique. Sure is a nice bow!

Wow. Im starting to believe that you really could tiller a popcicle stick out to 24". :o
-
Nice job Richard, you've really got her bending!

Thanks fellas, got to believe that the Pecan had a lot to do with it. I'm real surprised it would draw that far as well. Just for the record I did leave some of the cambium on and it hasn't even cracked and absolutely no sign of belly compression problems either.....great wood for sure.

I don't know how you get those shorties to bend that far Rich, 25" in a 54" bow is a challenge for me. I'll keep at it and watch your post for inspiration though. Thats another fine looking bow there.

Nice one Rich. Got a few pecan staves drying now. This gets me excited about starting on some of it.

Wow. You amaze me with your skill and craftsmanship.

Sweet shortie, there, Rich...as usual!! ;)

You did that pecan stave proud Rich! Very nice. That is a helluva bend in that bow. Sorry I missed your call yesterday. I was out in the Gulf of Mexico fishing - cell service sucked once we hit the 12 mile limit. I have had some issues with leaving too much cambium on pecan. I have learned the hard way to sand that stuff down to where the little wavy lines are pretty thin. It does make a beautiful pattern done that way. Glad you liked the pecan. ;)

;D i likey that >:D nice as always

A 40# self bow that's just 48" is pretty amazing. :o
But then, you get more out of a short stave than anyone else. :)

Nice work there Rich!! As usual. You can say it was the pecan, but I know that stick would be in pieces if I tried that. ;)
