Title: red oak stave
Post by: clintw864 on July 26, 2013, 10:09:37 am
I have made a bow from a red oak board but never from a tree.  Had a large red oak blow down . still live. My question is should the sap wood be removed or do like hickory or elm and just remove the bark?  Thanks for the help. Clintw864

Just remove the bark and seal it up to dry.

i have made some nice bows from red oak staves but i would remove the sap wood its brittle and not very good for bows when it is dried out plus there might be bug dammage something in all of my red oak staves
