I have red B50. Of course is fades as we all know. Question: can a bleach it to remove the color without loosing the strength?
-
What would you bleach it with to not weaken it? B50 is less than $10 a spool. Why not just buy white?
-
adb, haha. I hear you. :) Well, I have a 1/2 spool of the red B-50 that I've had for over 4 years and I'd was just trying to think of a way to use it up. I suppose I would use Clorox to bleach it out. Or maybe stretch it out in front of window. IDK :)

Only one Way to find out ...... Try it if you have some to spare
-
Or we could work out a trade? I have never tried B-50....
-
Joe, I think I'll give it a try. I'll tie a strand to an eye and pull it and drop a weight to test the unbleached breaking point. Then do the same with a bleached strand. All I'm really wanting from it is to make some thick tillering string anyway. It's just started annoying me that the red fades off into the nocks. Like that really matters. It will be cover up by the real bow string anywho.

Sleek, I just check the price of b50 at 3Rivers. It's 10.50 a spool. Where are you? This trade might not be worth the shipping cost for either of us. But, what the heck. What do want to trade for about $5 worth of B50.
-
I live in Tulsa Ok. You are probably right then about the shipping. What you learn from bleaching and doing a break test would be more valuable. Thanks anyway...
-
Dave, you could make up a handfull of tillering strings and send one to a new guy when they need one for the first time. You can mail them in envelopes.
-
Let us know how it works, love the look of red in a string but hate the way it bleeds, I got some also I have had for years, wonder if FF red bleeds the same
as b50. :) ff is to high to buy just to try. :)

I still have a large spool of red B-50 I bought back in the 90's before I knew how bad it bled onto everything. Once in a while I will put 1 or 2 threads in a string to give it some personality, which doesn't seem to bleed as badly, but at this rate I will be leaving it to my kids in my will. That is not a bad idea about making tillering strings out of it though.

B50 is good shop cord Dave. I use it for general work. Get some FF and be happy man!
Pappy I have neon orange FF and it doesn't bleed. None of my FF bleeds...........or stretches...:)
-
Personally...I don't care if my bow tips get a lil "red" on them ;)
-
I have black FF that bleeds.
-
If someone has some B50 they don't want I would happily trade something for it. And pay the shipping. I have some half-cured canes from a trade that didn't work out(I am on vacation though, so can't mail for a week...)

...says the man who builds bows with such tiny pointed tips they could readily be used for spearing game!
