Title: ignorant question but?
Post by: 4dog on June 09, 2013, 11:09:50 am
Is there a way to do a "quiet" two fletch job, just did a traditional , they flew as good as three fletch , just "louder",, i like the look of two fletch , just not the sound...thanks.

I've made two fletch arrow with trimmed tail feathers that were real quite.  Rounded corners and no higher than about 1/2" is the key I think.  Shield is much louder than Parabolic.

You might try a spiral wrap on the fletchings.  I haven't seen it done on the real ones but I'm sure it was done somewhere.  That should help with the sound.  I need to try it myself just out of curiosity.

I think if you cut and tie the fletches on the same as NORMAL 3 fletch, but with 2 fletches cut a bit longer... they are silent.

You want to be sure to not have little nooks and crannies that can catch air. I had a small hole once between a fletching and shaft that would whistle.

Try trimming down the feathers a little at a time until they quiet down to your liking. Rounded corners are quieter too. Also mount the feathers up-side-down with the back of the feather against the bow. The feathers seem to lay better that way.

Pull them tight they are quite for a few shots!
I wrap mine from the front through the half feather ,to where the full feather starts!
That helps them a lot!
I don't twist them either they don't need it and they stay tight longer !
Have fun !

Guy,
If you use them with broadheads do you twist them?

You have to change the cresting immediately, I use the wide white band with two narrow black bands.  Don't force me to sue you!   >:D

And the best part about these two fletch with tailfeathers?  They freak out the wheelie bow shooters!

Kinda like the reaction you would get walking into a PETA meeting wearing a fresh deerhide breechclout and gnawing on a raw kidney.  Not that I know about the looks you get when you do that.   ;)

My two fletch arrows are my quietest ones in the quiver. If you tie them on wet, they tighten up nice and close.
