Title: Wood ID Help
Post by: tgtmatt on May 05, 2013, 12:20:21 pm
I cut this tree a few months back and just saw another two behind my house and decided i should probably find out just exactly what it is. So here we go. Thanks in advance for all the help.

It would help to know where you live, but to me it looks like some willow.

I'm from South Carolina. Near the Beach. It was growing in a sort of wet area.

I'm guessing Willow Oak - it's specific to Your area. Bob

Willow it is. Highly unlikely it will make a decent bow.
Identify first, cut later.

Thanks guys. Looks like I'll be using it for tip overlays and handles.

It will be too soft for tip overlays; don't use it for that.
Also for handles it's softer than I would personally prefer.

Willow is good for carving or firewood...
