Title: Big Andice Blade
Post by: Will H on March 14, 2013, 06:42:42 pm
This is definatley the biggest andice I've ever done. It's 6 1/4" long and 2 1/4" wide with notches a little over an inch deep. I just couldn't help myself when I was looking over this nice big piece of Georgetown contemplating what to make of it. I thought...dovetail, no...knife, naa....ANDICE! Yeah! That'll look awesome! Ha! I need help  ::) I always want to run basal notches. I'm addicted.... So here's a couple pis. Enjoy :)

Lol, Me too. Must be the power of primitive archery that has allowed us to survive the end of the world so many times in the past few years. Would it be to much trouble for me to as you to post pics of your knapping tools Will?

Sure thing man. I use copper mostly. I started out abo but realized I have an intrest in modern lithic art and not so much in authentic replicas. I use the antler shown to hit my punches, which I made from 1/8" 7018 welding rods dipped in rubber tool dip. I flatten the buisness end. The brass nail notchers are for starting the notch and cleaning up after a punch then I use a diamond file to abrade within the notch.

Wheooow!  That is a biggun!  I'd like to see a close up of those 7018s. Are they all different on the business end?  Will, that's a dandy.  dpg

Will I understand what u mean about being addicted to notches and making a certain point. It feels good when you are able to complete things that took awhile to get there or others aren't able to do.  Great work..maybe I will have to make one to see what the hype is all about...
