New poster, longtime lurker. Second Osage self bow: 62” TTT, 60.5” NTN, 46# @ 31”, water moccasins over silk for back protection, walnut tip overlays, paracord handle wrap soaked in super glue, 10 or 11 coats of tung oil followed by rottenstone polish. My FD is only to about 28 or 29”. The moc’s were huge and had almost no pattern to them whatsoever, and the scales were much tougher to deal with than rattlers or bull snakes…..won’t be using them again.
Thanks to everyone on here for all the inspiration.

dang, to my untrained eye that tiller looks about perfect! good job bro.

Thats very nice indeed. Very nice work.

Ok, I'm throwing a flag on this play and calling an Intentional Obfuscation! Granted, I will be willing to believe that is your second OSAGE BOW....but there is no way in heck that is only your second bow! The tiller is too good, you have been practicing on other woods before you made this one!
The tiller is fantastic, the design is great, and the detail work impressive. Dang, I wish you'd gotten into the bow trade so I'd have a chance of getting one of your bows.
Keep posting, John, I'm a fan.

Wow, are you sure thats not your 20th bow? Tiller looks spot on. Great job :D
-
Great looking bow!

Very nice New Guy, i too hope that is not your second bow ever. If so, i'll go stick myself in the corner of shame with the other uglies. :P
-
Sweet :)
-
Fo show fo show that ones good to go. I don't think you could have gotten that tiller any more perfect. Look forward to seeing your other work. Danny
-
Sweet looking bow.
I can vouch for Johns skills - definitely not his second bow. He does real nice work.

If RB vouches for him, that's good enough for me. Not that the bow didn't speak well enough for him!!!
-
Thats a great lookin bow and quite a long draw you got going there. Looks like you got it pulled to your ear :). Beautiful tiller.
-
Thank you all for the kind compliments. JW, you caught me nearly as soon as I got out of the gate! It is not my first bow....there's 20 or more in the corner of shame and a few good uns floating around....however this is the first one that I felt comfortable enough in the design & tiller to post alongside the bows on this site that have been inspiring me since I joined.
My normal draw length is 24, I've only made a couple that actually draw to 28 & this one is for a buddy in Montana who's measured length was 31....it scared the crap outta me and took me forever to get it so I was satisfied enough to send it to him.
Thanks again fellas...I'll be back.

Sweet Tiller!!!!!

....it scared the crap outta me and took me forever to get it so I was satisfied enough to send it to him.
It's good for you to take on a project from time to time that scares you. Whether it's making bows, or developing a closer relationship with your spouse...take a chance and push it to a better level from time to time!
You got this one nailed to the barn!
-
Coaster....yep....sure am, but it's mighty spendy getting it back here to NY....one of these days I'm gonna spend some vacation time and drive out west somewhere and cut a pickup load of it.
JW....thank you again....but the second part of your advice is likely too long a shot at this point......
-
Like that dark color. More pics please :-) Stunner. :-)
-
Bowman I would but it's already in residence at it's home in MT......I'll ask the new owner to send along a couple
-
Very nice bow. Simple as that :)
-
Love the primitive look...Tiller is very nice. How wide are the fades and limbs?
-
Looks great, lots of bend for a short piece. Nice Job. :)
Pappy

Thank you Mike.
Donald it's an inch and a half from the fades to midlimb tapering to slightly under a half at the tip.
Thank you Pappy.
-
You done good, Sir! I believe you'll fit right in. Don't be a stranger now and don't be a afraid to show us your "less than perfect" work also. Heck, almost all mine is!

Thank you Scott.....as I said earlier, I'll be back.
