there is a cut downpast where the lockers left a bunch laying around. I went looking for some wood for my first bow. I was wondering if someone could help me with the id of the tree. My skills aren't great at iding them without the leaves on. Also, it isnt completely dry, its been cut and laying out in the weather for a year. Should I split it , or not to let it dry? Thank you.

Trying to post the picture.

If it is a white wood and it has been cut and left out in the weather for a year you need to find something else. It will probably have decay or rot and not be worth messing with. If it is Osage or maybe black locust it should be OK

try just attaching it if you're having trouble with photobucket.
"attachments and other options"
Click "Browse"
Choose your photo.
Post.
If the photo is too large, you can resize it using paint. Just right click on the photo, and" open with paint".

I didnt notice any rot at all when I cut the section I brought home.

Just copy and paste the img code. It already has the image boxes in it.

Identification based on solely one picture of the outer bark is "very difficult" at best.
Where was the tree growing? Area, habitat, soil type, surrounding plants? How big was it? Any other pictures perhaps? Old leaves, buds, twigs, fruits, inner bark, end view of the log...?
