Title: Hackberry backing?
Post by: KShip85 on December 22, 2012, 08:21:59 pm
Just curious to see if anyone has ever tried hackberry as a backing.  I've been looking for a backing material to pair with an ERC experiment and am curious how they would pair together.  I've got some good straight grained halved logs that should saw up well too so that ends my hunt for wood plus it's been cut for a few years already, just waiting in my bow wood pile.  It seems to be strong in tension to me.  Whats everyone think?

Thanks in advance for any input.

It seems to be very strong in tension to me. Never had one fail unless I sanding the back ring too thin.

Guess there is only one way to find out.  Might try and find time to rip some quarter sawn pieces in the next couple days. If I can get a few cut would there be any interest in trying some out to test it  in various applications/designs?
