Vlad The III from the house of Dracul was nicknamed "Vlad The Impaler" for his cruel punishment upon his enemies(fact),and his wifes name was Molly and this was her bow(fiction)...lol
Seriously tho this stave was deemed for the "firepile" by my buddies Jon(straightarrow) and Bill(hickorybill)back when we cut this lot of hedge a year and half ago. I took it with me to maybe, just maybe, one day fling some arras with it. Well guess what, that day has come and I got it flinging arras. It had three live branches sticking out of it when it was cut n split. I removed one thats in the working limb top limb and drilled it out for a 3/4" hole in the bow. The skewer in the middle is in the handle, and the skewer in the lower limb is actually a part of the lever. I only chased a ring over the working limbs and left all the sapwood on the levers and in the handle. The handle also has such a steep concavity to it,and with the skewers(knots) that it was actually best and easiest to lay out this stave as a molly and sapwood levers and handle. This bow is straight up wicked looking,i love it. Its more of a novelty bow,and made for the sake of overcoming such a flawed character stave, and to prove Jon n Bill wrong >:D I probably wont shoot it much, altho it does spit an arra purtty darn quick despite that lower skewer looking all fat and nasty heavy. It does have a small noisy vibration to it because no matter how hard i tried i couldnt get that bottom limb to weigh the same as the top and be balanced because of that branch, but i wouldnt call it handshock. Its 64"ntn,50@28",24 oz mass weight, jibarillo tip overlays. Enjoy the nastiness >:D

-
That's quite a character bow! Nicely done. Jawge
-
If ever I become enough of a bowyer to create such a thing, ...I shall be most proud! Though she's as ugly as homemade sin, there's just something extra special about her. Is there any such thing as a piece of osage that you cannot turn into a functioning bow?
OneBow
-
Thars Orcs out there'll pay plenty of severed heads for a bow like that >:D
Del
-
That is too cool. Although looking at the direction of those spikes, it looks like you have the bow upside down. The bow gods might be mad. ;)
-
Man that's wicked looking.I can see the 4 to 5 rings of sapwood taper in one picture.Unique as all get out. You've outdone yourself again I'd say.
-
I've seen the sapwood left on the handle and tips before .... Now where did I see that at :o >:D
That's a dirty girl right there. Fantastic!
-
Thats one way to make a bent stick nicly done amigo
-
Dude, you could reduce mass by removing those spikes. It would make your bow faster. >:D >:D >:D Just kidding. That would be lame.
Gabe
-

Incredible bow

AMAZING! That's cool.
-
That is Dirty-Bad-Wrong. And I love every inch of it!
-
Talk about unique, that is too cool. Now tell me, is this "jibarillo" fact or fiction? I have never heard of it.
-
Dang......... now ya got me wanting to dig through the firewood pile. If you ever get tired of scairing poeple away with that thing i sure could use a good backscratcher. ;)
-
That bow is great! Very sinister. >:D Definitely one of a kind.
-
Thanks for all the....nice? remarks everyone...lol
Oops..Bob I misspelled..its called Jicarillo and yes it is a real wood..pretty grained stuff too. I got it from the rockleor store on mcknight road (19) north side of pitt. They got all kinds of exotics and woodworking stuff
-
I guess it's ok:)
-
Whewwww!! 8)
-
Looks like turkey spurs to me or maybe they have some exotic purpose - pinning snakes, twisting varmints out of dens, blocking sword strikes, or such. Nicely done.
-
Wicked as a witch !!! and yes you are one sick s.o.b.
-
That is so messed up, it's cool! That has got to be the most unique bow I've seen for a while! Nice work on what must have been a whacky stave. Amazing. Really.
-
Pretty wild don't know how you do it.
Rob

Awesome looking n good tiller for the challenges. Always good to try an 'impossible' peice of wood.
-
Chris that is probably the coolest bow I've ever seen.. Those "spurs" remind me of roster spurs on game rosters.. Really cool bow..
Cipriano
-
Now that's a bow you can hang your quiver on... and your hat. cool!
-
Real beautiful, besides being crafted so excellently, I really like the flavor of your bows. But who is Laura? And why is she locked in the shed? ???
-
Very nice Chris on a very challenging piece of wood.Nice job. :)
Pappy
-
I agree with Del in this case....that looks like an orc ( from lord of the rings) bow.....good work though on a difficult stave

Jon
-
Very nice tiller on a very difficult stave. Very cool 8)
-
That rocks!
The bow look awesome, how does it shoot?
-
...and if ya run outta arras, you still got one heck of a weapon!
-
Not only does it shoot an arrow, it doubles as a back scratcher. That's awesome Chris. Great bow.
-
Chris. What can I say that has'nt already been said. Well done is an understatement. I think you flat got this bow making thing figured out.
Its bows like this that make it hard for me to get rid of even the most obsured staves. I have'nt gained the skill or courage yet to tackle something like that yet but maybe one day all those character staves I've got will finally get sme attention. In the mean time I continue to be inspired by work such as this. Danny

I built a bow for a guy the other day and he asked (no joke)if he could get a bayonet attachment on the tip....I said no.
Looks like you got one built in:)
-
...and if ya run outta arras, you still got one heck of a weapon!

That is awesome, well done to say the very least Blackhawk.

-
Yea I seen that thing (stave) . over at Chris's . Thought to myself man this guy is nuts making bows out of some of the wood he uses . But he always seems to crank out a beauty and great shooters to.
-
Thanks for the replies everyone :)
-
When I first looked at your pictures, the first reaction I had was to shake my head, snicker, and ask myself "why??"
Then I thought about it for two seconds, and realized the answer - Because he can ;) 8) That's reason enough I guess.
Nice work dude, that thing is crazy.
-
The real reason ole Chicken Hawk made that bow is because he used to suck his thumb when he was a kid, now he has something to occupy his time while sitting in a tree stand:)
-
All hail the Impaler >:D

-
Very nicely done. That is wicked good. I appreciate the fact you took what others didn't want and made a bow. Seems that's what I end up doing a bunch. Sometimes that is more satisfying than anything. Some may call it cocky but it is what it is. Congrats on a fine bow. Matt
