This is an osage hunting bow, I posted some time ago on PP. So, I apologize if some of you guys get bored.
The stave was very clean, only two little knots with no problems. Recurves are steam bent, selfnocks no overlay, handle porc leather.
Cross section is rectangular and runs into triangular levers. I personally like the willow leaf front profile (very long fades) and the eagle wing shape of the unbraced side profile.
This bow is a really hard and fast shooter.
Specs:
length: 58"
braceheight: 5,5"
drawlength: 28"
drawweight: 80#
mass (total): 595g
handle: 4"
fadeout: 4"
stiff part handle: ca. 8"
stiff parts levers: 2" each
w/d fades: 40/15mm
w/d midlimb: 38/12mm
w/d tip: 12/12mm
Arrows for this bow are made of bamboo shafts, nock horn inlay, grey goose feathers, trade points, sinew bindings.
enjoy

Plain beauty, n1 one!
-
Awesome bow, and arrows. Practical and simple yet still nice to look at.
-
Lovely, beautiful. My favourite kind of flatbow. Timeless. I'm going to build my osage bow in that way. :-)
-
Oh my, that is a beautiful bow! Was the wood that dark when you made it or did you take the pics some time after? Also I really like the look of the longer fades. Reminds me of the old American longbows of the 30s and 40s. That bow is classic :o
-
That is a GOOD LOOKING BOW.
May have to make me 50lb draw a one like it. ;D

Yesssirree no backing and ready to shoot.Your likings of your bow are the same as mine.I've heard the profile of your bow called a 5 curve but there is'nt very much set back in your handle on account of your longer fades it's just there and that's it.Nice looking smooth transition look at full draw.I can believe it packs a whollup when it hits home. That bows' ready for a 40 yard moose shot.Classical beauty.Very nice job.
-
thats a beautifull and well made bow, 80#.....you could hunt rhinos with that,,,,or pierce some serious armour....you must be stronger than me
-
80# @ 28"... Now that is worth pullin' ;D
I'll bet that would cut through even a politician's tough hide
Great looking bow, it's really working hard, nice to see a full length draw too.
Don't think any critters are going to argue with that bad boy.

Really nice bow. That looks like a flawless piece of Osage. I like the sharp tips.
-
That is a beauty. That many pounds out of a 58" bow with that draw length is amazing. Good piece of Osage. Thanks for sharing.
-
Simson , your work is very impressive. Great looking profile and tiller
-
Great bow!!!!
Needs a name though????
Maybe Hammer!!!!!!
80#s!!!! Ouch!!!!!
-
cool bow that bend is awsome
-
now THAT is a beautiful bow....nice lines, you've sure got an eye for practical beauty.
Steam bending of the bow at the handle is a puzzle to me ...If you wouldn't mind me askin...how'd ya do that?
-
beautifully done, simson. your bows are an inspiration to all. and 80# on a recurve! thats quite a draw weight!
-
Wow, that bow has a beautiful profile...
-
Great bow!
Don't blow a shoulder
-
You make some gorgeous bows man. Definitely got the most out of that piece of wood. I don't think I saw this on PP so I'm glad you posted it here. Thanks for sharing!
-
Nice Bow!!! 80# though??! Phew! Betcha it's a pull gettin' that back! Shorter bows always feel heavier. Your tiller is super. Much handshock? Did you want that much draw weight for something specific? Moose, elk maybe?
-
You can take moose and elk with lower weight. 45-50 is just fine.

Yes... I know. I'm just asking what he had in mind for the weight.

...and pierce his heart. If he had one.

Elegant design. I especially appreciate the fades and the triangular levers. There's just something really pleasing to the eye with this bow- you must have nailed some golden ratio somewhere in there 'cause I just can't stop checkin her out : ) *inspired*

He's gonna use blunts during a zombie invasion. HAMMER TIME!

;D ;D ;D

That is a very nice bow.

I will never get tired of looking at your bows Simson. Absolutely beautiful. I would like to have an 80 pounder hanging on the wall. I would shoot it just often enough to keep my 55-60# hunting bows feeling like 40# target bows.
-
That's one heck of a bow; really nice!!!
-
Thanks guys!
will try to answer some questions

this bow was about half a year old and in use when I took the pics, but I have osage with a great variaty in colours.
One very dark one with red stripes. Thank you for your compliments

I feel comfortable at 65-75# for target bows and like about 80# on hunting bows (one shot, heavy arrow)

Can't manage to answer to the earlier posts in one single reply .... so i have to do it in extra replies. Perhaps someone can point me how to do?

two jigs: one for the recurves, one for the handle/fade - area, recurves boiled for about 30 min, Fades about 40 min

absolutely no handshock, but I shoot arrows out of her with a weight at least 750gn.
and I like to shoot a heavy bow - ------>

Gorgeous! Work of art!
Also, low mass for this design and draw weight.

Just beautiful. Your bringing some wonderful stuff to the table, Simson, thank you. May I ask - how long have you been making bows?

I begun bowmaking in 2005 with crooked sticks without any idea. After a few desasters I begun to collect books about it, went in museums, and so on. Serious bowmaking since 2008, but then extreme. it's now agreat part of my life ...
