This piece of osage was laying around for years in my shop. It was a leftover from a regular stave, very thin in the middle (handle) and lot of deep cracks. there are also several groups of pin knots to manage. Some time ago I decided to give it a try. Steamed the recurves in, strengthened with horn wedges (inserts), heat corrected string alignment and side profile, filled the drying cracks with thin super glue, put on a wrapping over a violated area and glued on two pieces of bloodwood at the handle area to stiffen it up (red pieces running out under the black handle leather. Handle leather was also a rest of black completed with a rest of a brown, simply glued on with double-adhesive tape. Horn tips are buffalo, string bridges are leather soaked in superglue. Everything was laying around under the workbench, really no invest except the string.
cross section is nearly rectangular, running in triangular fades and levers. this bow is a wonderful smooth shooter, because of the length and the recurves. No stack, no handshock - my momentary favorite for target shooting

you've done this wood justice! nice job luring this bow out! ;D
-
Nice save - great lookin' bow ! Bob

Lovely bow, plenty of character but not so much as to make it just a 'looking at' bow.
Looks like a real work horse, and I love that nice group of pin knots.

That is a very cool bow. Great job on it.
-
Love it. I have never seen recurves re-enforced like that either, not having horn wedges, what other material would you suggest.
-
It doesn't look like junk anymore to me...nice smooth shooter :)
-
Nice job...especially with "scraps"!! ;)
-
Love your bows Simson. This one is a beauty, very nicely done in all aspects and certainly does look to be a shooter.
-
Very nice bow.I like it.Can see why you like shooting it and it's your favorite. The horn inserts I like and have thought of putting in before, and will some day too.Nice looking accents on that.A person can really narrow the tips down considerably. You got the most out of that one.The whole bow looks great.Surprising what a person can do with what has been laying around all this time and put it all together.Very nice job.Congradulations.

Horn is easy available, just sand down to a wedge. You could also use a contrasting hardwood, here it is the two glue lines that makes the whole thing stiff.

Nice static recurve! what is the length or did I miss that?

I always look forward to working on that "board straight" stave that's drying in the corner. But I am usually the proudest of the bow that came from left-overs. Nice work!

Nice job on that tricky little stick. Just goes to show why Osage is the king. It's tuff to find a piece of Osage to call junk. 8)

Beautiful bow! Like that color and grain look in it. Those curves sure add to it as well.
