I was listening to this today and was wonderfully pleased that they presented hunting and it's moral implications in such powerfully positive light!
I am sincerely peeved that they did not take my call, though. I wanted to correct their horrible mistake in citing sandhill cranes as just a "trophy hunt". Sandies are flying ribeyes! Sandhills do not have amazing plumage, measurable racks/spurs/beards/etc that can be mounted as a trophy....DUH!
Pretty interesting stuff, though, otherwise.

You actually got through??? :o I called 21 times and got 21 busy signals. ;D ;D

I also wanted the young gal's phone number. Just being neighborly and inviting her to come hunt up here. That's all.

That too.

I've hear sandhills called, "The Sirloin of the Sky". Never tried one though, I think they are protected down here in Indiana. dp

The sandhill crane population on the eastern flyway has come to the point that they are causing crop depredation in their southern wintering area. Kentucky tried to get a hunting season but the anti-hunting groups raised a huge stink and it was tabled again.
I've had sandies a couple of times and they are very beefy tasting. That breast meat is dark rich maroon in color and just simply extraordinary when grilled to medium rare.

There's anti-hunting groups in KY? Wow, now I've heard everything. ;D ;D dp

Sandies are protected in California.

Sandhills are protected in Florida But the one I a,, I mean heard about tasted a lot like venison when lightly battered and slow cooked in gravy. :D
