Title: Birch Bark Glue
Post by: bowtarist on November 07, 2012, 12:40:04 pm
I was watching a vid on YT about OTZI's arrows and the guy made a birch bark sap glue.  It looked pretty easy and fairly tough too.  I don't have many white birch trees around here, maybe in someones landscape  >:D, but we do have river birch around here.  Anybody know if river birch bark can be used in a similar way?  Thanks for any replys, dpgratz

As far as know the bark of all types of birch (betula) contains more or less tar.

Go for it!  Also I believe the black birch, or river birch is the one used for
birch beer, and I think for something else but not sure.  maybe wintergreen, or something like that.  But it should have the tar also.
