Title: Width on Hawthorn Flatbow
Post by: Zion on September 09, 2012, 01:51:15 am
Since i don't really get the chance to get such wide staves usually, i've been thinking about making a wider one. The stave is 58" ttt and about 2 1/3" in diam. I know that with longer bows, too wide of limbs will make a slower bow because of all the extra mass. (58" isn't that long, but then i again i usually make bows 50".) I'm thinking about making a flat bow design. Will the wider limbs make for a slower bow? Or am i safe?

One of the limbs also has a cool wiggle in it:

I like it. Did you induce that reflex or is it natural? You may feel a little more hand shock than you are used to but speed shouldn't be a problem. what, maybe 2-3 fps slower? Never used Hawthorn.
