Will whomever is still building a bow in the 2012 Bow Trade please contact the person you are building for! It is way past time to have these bows out and your recipient need to know something, one way or the other.
Anyone that has not received a bow, please PM me and I'll cross reference who your builder is and contact them.
-
UP
My offer to supply a bow still stands Pat.
-
Count me in for a bow as well
rich

Me too, Pat.
-
Chris,Rich and Matt that is nice of you guys to do that.it shows how much character we have.thank you,Steve
-
I've got names of those who have not recieved. I'll contact each builder and see what's up. If no replies from anyone I'll let you guys know. Thanks for your generosity, guys. Y'all are the best! 8)

Yup,my offer still stands as well too. I know I got plenty of different weights and draws to pick from and write there name n specs on it and send it the next day, just let us know. In my opinion there isn't many "real" excuses to take 8 months to build one bow. And its not fair for those to wait that long either when they already built and sent one out long ago.
-
I recieved 5 names of folks that have not received a bow yet. Are there any others? Please let me know so I can contact the builder.
I have sent a PM to each of the 5 builders that have not sent out bows. They should be contacting their recipient to let you guys know the statis of the bow they are building you. Please let me know when you hear from the builder.
Thanks, Pat
ps. I forgot about me! ::) OK so&so, I'm coming after you! ;)
-
Maybe you will get lucky and have to take one of my bent twigs Pat!
-
That would be a real bummer, Pearlie! ::)
-
Least thats what the guys at work call them, bent twigs. But for some reason when I offer to shoot at them on the run they decline???? Seems they are scared of my bent twigs.
-
Everyone know that these toys we build couldn't hurt a fly. I'm surprised he declined. ;)
-
pearl , just ask them if they can run 160+ fps :D your bent twigs shoot awsome!
-
If the five do not respond I'd love to add them to my short list of deadbeat traders. >:D
-
That was my plan Eddie. ;)
-
Have any of the guys that have not received a bow yet been comtacted by your builder?
-
Yes sir I have and he is a fine gentleman to boot.

Sometime next week I'm gonna post the names of folks that haven't sent out a bow or at least contacted their recipients with info about their bow. I hate to have to do this but at this point you have had over a month since the deadline and almost 8 months since the beginning of the bow trade. Also if you are not heard from your name will go to Eddie Parker for his lil black book :o and I guarantee you don't want your name there.

That would be one CRAPPY list to be on........................I just pray I dont see names that shouldnt be on that list, not that anybody should be. You get my drift.....
-
I don't want to see anybody's name go on Eddie's list but unless folks contact me I have no other choice. This is getting ridiculous! All I ask is for each builder that hasn't sent out a bow to please contact the person they are building for. If they don't have the common courtacy to do that then their names need to go into Eddie's book!!!

Eddie's list is worse than Santa's naughty list.

Pat...since you know the names have you checked to see if they have been active lately and logged onto the forum recently?
-
Really don't understand what is so difficult about contacting your recipient just so he knows what's up??? Are you having a problem??? Can we help??? Come on guys fingers on the keys and send a PM :)
-
I think Blackhawk is probably right. my guess is the people who haven't made bows and haven't contacted anyone probably aren't on the site reading this. They probably haven't been logged on for awhile. It doesn't necessarily excuse their flakiness in the trade but it's likely a more fair image than to assume that they are reading all of these threads, shrugging their shoulders and then checking out the latest bows people made.
-
Kick em all out no matter what is said or done now. No excuse after this amount of time has elapsed, ZERO. They can keep their bows to. We have enough capable folks offering to build one.........for real build one.

post their names, banish them from future trades, funny thing is anyone i've ever traded with here goes overboard to make shure that they give more than they get, Bub
-
If these guys signed up for the bow trade they knew the deadline was July 17. It is over a month after that and still no reply. They should be checking in at least occasionally anyway. I have not checked to see if they have been loged in lately but at this point what difference does that make.
I sent each one a PM and haven't heard a thing back since then. I'll give them another day or two.
-
Make sure to ban their IP's so they can't make a new account and do it again. Er, I guess that probably happens automatically, right?
-
I'll hunt them down on PaleoPlanet, leatherwall and Tradgang. Everybody will know their Credit Score. >:D And maybe a few phone calls at home. ::)
-
Guys just to be clear, I have heard from my builder and while I ain't heard nothing lately or
received the bow I feel like I will.
Lane
-
Lane, feel free to contact him to check on the statis of your bow.
-
It is too bad that people who where having a hard time did not say something a few months ago. Many of us would of picked the slack and all of this would not be necessary and Pat would not have to play police with his own time. I am sure he would rather do other things!

Rich you have sent me two stout shorties just because I told you I needed one. Be tickled to
call one of them my trade bow and send you a skin for the other. Hell I'm gonna send the skin
anyhow as soon as I get ahold of a good'un. You are so good hearted it's down right aggravating.
Speak up Pat. You could scratch one off....
Lane

Lane, I believe you have a trade bow coming.
-
I think so too, was just trying to help simplify.
Ya'll handle it however you think best ...
-
If pat says post them, I'll do it. I think it's time, too. When you see the names some of you might be closer to these guys then the rest of us and you might know if they are having personnel issues the rest don't know about.
-
For the vast and overwhelming majority of people in here, something has to be going wrong to not make the right move on a trade. Things happen, sometimes they just plain avalanche. We all get that.
For those that are coming up short on sending their bow out on the trade, send me a p.m. I got a few I might be able to send on to the recipient on the down-low. No need to make it all public.
-
Post them Eddie! I think everyone has had a chance to man up to this trade. I have sent each person a PM and later an email and have only heard from one person.
-
Van Halen said it best, "Hang em' High".
-
Only one response?
At first I was wondering why people were getting so fired up in this thread.
It suddenly became clear!
-
I'm hesitant to comment on this, but I feel I should just for my own good. I can think of a lot of valid reasons for not making the deadline. I am however quite hardpressed to come up with an excuse for the lack of communication . I'm also having a hard time believing that there are multiple people on this forum that would intentionally stiff somebody on a trade like this. I have really enjoyed this trade and hope to do it again. It would really disappoint me to see such a positive event turn into an ugly squabble. If this keeps up, I seriously doubt there will be anybody would want to take the reigns again. I'm not knocking anyone, I completely understand the frustration. I would just like to avoid bad feelings about the trade. All that being said, I would like to make a similar offer as what Jw made. If you are having trouble making your bow for whatever reason, shoot me a pm. I have a lot of unused bows. I can send one out for you, no explanation or excuses needed. No strings attached. Josh
-
I completely agree with gun doc and am more than willing to help with a x-tra bow for someone. But I do believe that people should stand up and ask for help instead of having a moderator do it for them. If you took the time to join the trade than you should have the time to let someone know that you can not finish. And if you got a bow and am M.I.A. on sending one out, you have no excuse.
-
I agree with JW. I don't feel good about smearing peoples names publicly. Who knows what the circumstances were. I just don't think there's that much to gain from it. I think it should be handled privately. I completely understand keeping them from future trades without an amazing excuse but that doesn't require posting their names publicly.
-
I say post the names. These people signed up and had no problem receiving a bow, but didn't send one out or at least communicate with anybody >:( I have a lot of respect for the guy that sent Mullets trade bow on to his guy because he wasn't going to be able to get a bow made. Why couldn't the MIA guys do the same?
-
I guess I hadn't thought about the fact that they had received bows. :-\ That's extremely lame to not communicate after you got a bow in the mail but haven't sent one out. Still not keen on the public humiliation though.
-
Just a shame... I mean a simple PM... I'm sick, family problems, I built five and they all broke. I can't think of a valid excuse for not communicating short of being in a coma or dead and I don't think there is a person on PA that would not be understanding.... guess I don't get it???
Post em... give me some specs and a recipient ... I've got a couple done and four or five in the works and like I said I need the practice ...
-
I would like to know who i'm trading with in the future ;) 8)
-
Willing to bet my builder is the one that has contacted Pat because he has also contacted me.
His problems were legit and I have no doubt the bow will be here soon.
In a former post I offered to consider one of my new halfeye bows as a trade bow. What I meant
was that I was willing to send it on to someone who has not received a bow so that the feeble old
guy would not have to build another. After all it takes him almost four hours to build one....
Never meant to imply I doubted my builder I just have trouble thinking and typing at the same time.
Was not in the trade last year but I seem to recall there was a bit of trouble that went on for a while.
Think we should cut to the chase and names should be posted. But that's just me.

Here's an idea, however messed up and extreme it may sound... Why not require a 50 dollar deposit before a member is eligible to participate in the bow trade? If for whatever reason the member does not send their recipient a bow, and makes no attempt to contact or make good on the trade past a certain date, the recipient can receive the 50 dollar deposit. After a successful trade however, and a recipient can confirm the bow was received, or at least proof of shipping/tracking number/shipping receipt scan, than deposit can be returned? I know the only problem would be people who sent their bow, but the receivers who would not contact the admin's to confirm they recieved it... ??? The 50 dollars would probably be motivation for someone to get a bow out there and not just blow off somebody, in case someone like that signed up for the bow trade. Or at least motivation not to sign up at all, if someone has any motive at all to blow someone off. I was thinking the hardcore people would be down for it, but alot of other people might not have 50 bucks on hand to sign up (I rarely do). I don't know, I was just brain stormin I guess...

Everyone needs to cool their heels. We will get to the bottom of this. There are plenty of you guys that have offered to build bows and it may get to that but for now lets just get back to doing what we do best...building bows.
I'm gonna contact Eddie and ask him not to post the names. We will handle it from here.

I have been watching this thread for awhile now, and been thinking about this for since the deadline. I would like to say I will release my builder from his obligation no questions asked, mabey something happened . That being said, I enjoyed making a bow for someone else, and liked being involved in the bow trade, and will do it again. Thanks, Eric.
-
My take. I've got no dog in the hunt. I just joined PA this summer and so, I am not involved in this years trade. That having been said, I have watched as bowyers have posted pics and comments on the bows they are making for others, and the bows they have received. I have been really interested in getting involved in the next one, as this seems like a lot of fun for everyone involved. I hope the problems brought on by a few don't ruin the fun for the rest. To me, this was unfortunately predictable, human nature being what it is. If I was involved, I would understand that someone is gonna get stiffed. Might be me. Do I want to play anyway? Yep! At least half the bows I've made over the years if not more, have been given to someone else. No strings attached. I have received back more than I've ever given away. Much more! Add to this the people who have stepped up and given bows away to even things out. THAT, is what this is really all about. Those that received a bow and never sent one, there can be no joy in that.
-
Those that received a bow and never sent one, there can be no joy in that.
...or at least that's what we'd like to think.
Like you, I wasn't involved in the trade this year. I was last year, and loved every minute of it (even though it took me 4 attempts, I ended up with a BOM from it, which was just an added bonus :)). I just didn't think I would be able to get one done this year with everything else I had going on, so I couldn't commit.
I don't think it's wise to tarnish someone's name because they couldn't complete their end of the deal for legitimate reasons. But I think with all of the time and opportunities the rest of them have had to reach out and contact their recipients, I can't think of any reason why someone couldn't even be bothered to let their recipient know what's going on, unless they simply didn't care. And I certainly don't want these people to be able to take advantage of others on this forum again. Unless their names are released or some other action is taken, they are likely to do it again (not just in a bow swap, but potentially in other trades as well) Yes, we have awesome members who are willing to step up and "fill in the blanks", and other recipients that are fine with not even receiving a bow (you guys are the ones who make this such an amazing group of people), but that doesn't mean that these guys should get away with scamming us, and be left able to do it again. Just my humble 2 cents...
-
The rules stated when you signed up that you must check in regularly and keep up with the trade. Also that you try to make the deadline. At the best if you had problems all you had to do was talk to Pat B.......plain and simple. I knew my bow would be up to the last day but I also knew that I would have it made. I also stayed in constant contact about the trade. If you can't play by the rules by all means you don't need to play. Short of being dead or a major catastrophe there is no excuse to not at least let somebody know something. I hope it all gets settled and to the fine people that have not received a bow I am sorry for that.
-
With all good there is potential for bad in it ...i suggest if in the future we do it again the un responses be ban from the trade...that being said i joind this site and this trade because it was a friendly, informative place to be and a lot of fun ....most of us signed up to make one, getting one
is great to, an through the kindness of others, ones who have fallen short can be helped out making shure everyone receives, that is what makes this a great sight! However i think that posting a list on a public board shaming those who for reasons unknown is not cool, what is the point of being so darn angry ....help not hurt that is the joy of being here but that is slowly going away and if the names are poasted(even though i am not as valuable as some on here)i will be out as it is no longer a fun time...i hope it can be resolved in good sprit ;)
-
I have contacted 3 guys that volenteered to build back-up bows for the 3 guys that didn't recieve bows in this years bow trade trade. If for some reason any of these 3 guys can not build another bow there are at least 4 other guys that have also volenteered. I've asked these builders to contact the recipient to find out the stats for their bow. I will also contact each recipient to let them know when I get confirmation from the builders.
I personally want to thank each and every one of the participants in this years PA Bow Trade. This is the best group of folks around. The knowledge and generosity that is graciously shared with everyone else is what makes this site such a great place to be a part of.
Once this bow trade is concluded we can move on to other things.
Thank you all, Pat
ps. I assure each and every one of you that the names of the guys that failed to deliver will not be openly posted on this forum. Their names will, however go in Eddie Parker's(mullet) little black book.
If anyone is working on a trade of any kind here on PA, Eddie's book contains the names of folks that have not delivered, not only on PA but Trad Gang and PaleoPlanet so contact Eddie if you have any doubts.
-
Thanks Pat, both for organizing such a great event and coming up with a fair and reasonable solution to an unfortunate predicament. I look forward to doing it again next year.
-
The trade was a blast and being able to participate was a privilege for a newbee. It made me reach a bit and try to build a better bow... I'll be back for the next one....
Thank you Pat and everyone envolved with PA for your advise, kindness and giving natures...

I will definitely be ready to make a bow for the next trade........ready for the Christmas trade next....

You guys that were not in the bow trade this year, don't be turned off about this. I enjoyed the trade and got a beautiful bow from Paul Semp. It puts my work to shame! Gives me something to shoot for next year, I plan on doing it again. Great bunch of guys on here!
-
Thank you, Pat for all of your hard work organizing this trade. I can't wait for the next!
-
I think overall it was a great success. One thing that might help is limiting to folks that have at least a little bit of history on PA. I'm not sure if any of the guys who didn't come through signed up for PA when they saw the trade or not but it would limit that sort of problem of someone looking for a free bow and not have the ability or desire to make one for someone else.
-
I would like to thank all who headed this up and dedicated their time and effort to make this possible...... One of the best perks for me (other than getting a great bow ...Thanks Elktracker.... ) was that it makes me better at building bows ... Like some others... I can get busy with all other things in life and I need something like this to get me on another project ... and since I'm giving it away .. I want it to be my best work and to try something out of my comfort area... That and getting all the valuable information from everybody else and seeing a lot of great bows being made... Looking forward to it again...

It just proves you can be anybody you want to be on the internet Eddie. Integrity is all a guy has when it all boils down.

Maybe we should just move on and get over this, i'm pretty shure the guy's that didn't follow thru will be blocked from future mass trades, let's get on with something positive, all these negative waves are a bummer, Bub

There were actually 4 guys that did not send out bows and all four of these builders have been regulars here on PA. The newbys all built and sent out bows.
As long as I have anything to do with the PA bow trade, newbys will be allowed to build. If they have only posted a few times I will contact them and ask them to sit it out for that trade but ask that they join in on the fun and sign up for the next trade. I did that last year with one guy and he is now a stand-up member of PA. ;)

Ok, well here's another idea than. Since the bow trades are typically an annual thing anyway, and I am guessing that alot of people are repeat traders who do the bow trade every year, than what if one requirement for doing the bow trade, is the first time you have to just have to do a bow and send to someone, and after that on the next bow trade than you will actually recieve one? (I know, probably a dumb idea, ;D). What if for first time people on the bow trade, you required a deposit 'bow'?... I don't know, I guess that sounds pretty dumb too...

Yes Sir,
I want to say Thank You to the Organizers of the 2012 Bow Trade.
And say that it was a Great Opportunity for someone like myself that has only been building bows for just short of two years, to
push as far out of my comfort zone as possible... put to use as many of the Great tips and ideas gleaned from this site,
the TBB, and other sources. To build my best bow, as of the date she shipped. Truly a Great Opportunity.
What I learned about my bow building process is priceless.
I have no doubt that this Bow Trade has made me a better builder.
Thank You.

Gus, you nailed it!!! That is what these bow trades are all about. Knowing that you are building for someone else makes you do the best you can and maybe a bit more. This bow trade has been a total success. The generosity of others has over shadowed any negativity and all is good. ;)

YES!!!!now we hit the nail on the head ;D focus on the good it brings  thank you all for a great showing of great bows... and like has been mentioned before thank you all who have made this possible, and for letting a rookie like me join, NO strings attached!

The best part of all of this is the four guys that got screwed by their "builders" are now going to get better bows that they ever would have from the dead beat no-shows.
Now thats good news! Congrats to the four recipients now getting bows to wrap up another swap year! Luck you!

I keep seeing posts about the "bow trade."
What is it?
-
Once or twice a year someone gets a bad mental disease and decides he is going to organize a bow trade. People then jump in like absolute maniacs and start digging thru their piles of unused wood with the intent of building the best bow they can muster for someone they, in all likelyhood, have never met, other than text on a computer screen.
Everyone that wants to be involved sends a message to the organizer with their preferred stats (for example I like something 50-55 lbs of draw weight, 26 inch draw length, and I shoot right handed without the use of an arrow shelf). The organizer then starts drawing names out of a hat and sending them on to all the participants. There is a deadline by which you are supposed to have your bow finished and shipped. You, of course, balance rushing to finish along with doing your best work, and get your bow shipped out to someone that has no idea that it is you that is working feverishly to make him/her their soon-to-be absolute most favoritest bow in the world.
And in turn, you rush madly to the mail several times daily until one day when that gloriously long and narrow package arrives at your home. Your knees get weak, drool runs off both sides of your chin (because you are level headed, you know), and you can't get the package open fast enough. When you do, you are ready to cry when you see it. There are angels singing, a shaft of the purest white light falls from the skies on you, and all you can see is this incredible bow in your hands.
And that's exactly how it happens for most people. Sadly, this time there were a few glaring exceptions. Now is when we as a community step up to the plate and new people volunteer to get bows finished at the last minute for those that didn't live up to their end of the bargain.
-
i think jw pretty much summed it up
-
Uh, yeah, that was the idea.
I wonder if I can rig the next bow trade so that I can get one of fishfinder's bows. He shoots big arrows!
