Title: HHB or Osage for paddlebow???
Post by: hedgeapple on August 08, 2012, 04:05:55 am
A friend asked me to make a paddle bow for him.  Would hhb or osage work better for that design?

Id lean towards a nice piece of HHB. When you go wide and short with osage it gets scary thin, and so it'll have to be a lil narrower than the HHB. But id use the best stave available that has more of a flat crown. Both will work if designed right.

That's about what I was thinking.  I was toying with the idea of making the paddle bow from the HHB you gave me.  But, I'm thinking it would be better as a stiff handle bow.  I have one stave of hickory.  I will look at it tomorrow to see if there's a paddle bow in it.
