This fall it will be ten years since I did my first bow. Skipped right over the training wheels and went straight to real bows.

Green ash, 66 inches tip to tip, 43# draw at 26", shot a 500 grain arrow at a less than scorching 133 fps. Somehow I managed to put a few cottontails in the pot.

The upper limb cracked when an oversized gorilla picked it up and over drew it. When asked what the HE!! he was thinking, he replied, "I just wanted to see how far I could draw it without breaking!". >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( Oddly enough, it was the upper limb, with straight grain and more working limb, that failed.
Wrapped the tips because I thought it looked cool.

After the bow was done I noticed the little critter in my bow. There's a little froggie in the pond....just his eyes sticking up outa the water!

I've been digging thru old photographs looking to see if there was a full draw picture anywhere, but I have not found any. Well, anyway, there she is. By the way, I named her after what all us guys are looking for: "One Good Piece of Ash"

I sure wish I could still shoot that bow, even though it was a slug. It started to stack just as I hit full draw and helped me develop a consistent draw length. And she was darn silent, too.
Poor thing got busted just two weeks before my first deer season. Luckily, the guy that taught me to build bows gave me one of his sinew backed osage bows to shoot that year. 9 years later and I have still forgotten to give it back to him!
For all you people making your first bows: don't ever get discouraged, who cares if it breaks, never mind what the wheelie shooters say, just keep makin'!

Speaks volumes to the guy standing at my elbow telling me step by step what to do and how to do it.
He'll never read this, but THANKS BARRY! THANKS FOR THE EFFING ADDICTION! >:( >:(
