I just got back from the local Flea Market with a nice find. I was told it was a South American bow. It is very heavy, dense wood, very dark. I've flexed it and it bends very even and seems to have a lot of weight. it is a simple bend in the handle bow 66" long. I'm really thinking about stringing it and seeing how it acts. Oh, it was very cheap ;D.

Very cool find, Eddie. Take it slow and easy if you decide to string it. It probably needs reeducating.
-
That's what I was thinking, Pat. It feels like it would sink if I put it in water.
-
My sister picked me up one of those from down there. Mine is black palm and looks like that
-
Very cool......interesting for sure.

Looks really nice. I like bows with the tool marks left in. Looks more natural.
Post some pics of full draw when you can.

DO IT NOAW! ( haha ;D). But seriously, I think you should string it up. Of course you could throw it on the long string first to check out the unbraced tiller? Looks like your gonna need to use a hitch knot on that nock, do both nocks look the same? Cool find, thanks for posting! I love flea market/garage sale finds. I always go huntin for old guitars with my old lady when we got the money to.

I've always dreamed of finding something that cool at a garage sale or flea market. Just be very VERY! Careful with that jewel :)
Think of the history behind that thing. Might have belonged to a cannibal tribe, if it really is from S.A.
But probably not, that's just where my imagination goes lol

Chuck, I think this one is black palm, also. I've been looking at it and side that I'm sure is the back is either backed in a fibre or is natural. It also doesen't look like ipe. Both nocks are the same. I think a string will have to be tied on both ends.
-
Aren't those bows typically strung to a really low brace?
Nice find.
-
OK Eddie hows it shoot?!?!?

SWEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
I'd have to rework it. Just to say I did.
-
Tom, al the ones I've seen pictures of have been low brace height.
Not yet, David, had company come over.

I have a similar one said to be from S America. It is a bit longer and shoots a real long arrow. There are no "nocks" as we know them. It straight tapers to a tip and the natural string is tied in a such a manner as to self tighten. Cool find! Bring it to the next Classic. I'll bring mine. I have to admit though, I've had it for years and never shot it.
-
Matt, I'll bring it so we can compare. Is yours Palm?
-
Palm? Never had the chance...nice find!! Think it is old?
-
It looks old. A lot of patina. The guy I got it from said it had been in the family a long time. His Uncle was a missionary in SA.

Amazing what you find at the flea market!
