Title: baleen
Post by: BowEd on July 29, 2012, 09:17:19 am
Does anybody have a line on some baleen?I think it might be easier to work with than gemsbok horn.Generally in the states here it's coming from Alaska. From a native Eskimo by law.Maybe there is an Innuite bowyer out there.I have roughed out hedge bows dry here at 8% for trade.I don't think there is any hedge in Alaska.I've seen it on ebay every great once in a while.

I know here in Oregon having any par of a whale is major trouble. I have met a few who have worked with Baleen and I've shot a baleen backed bow. Input I heard was that it will tend to ball-up or clump when sanding and seems a little denser then gemsbok. But it sure is purty!
