Title: Small osage question
Post by: bluegill on September 06, 2007, 02:05:54 pm
I have found a small osage about 3" in diameter which has good shape for a bow. I realize that there will be no heartwood, just sapwood. Is this suitable to make a bow out of?

I have made a few all sapwood osage bows with good results. Pat

I would not count on it being all sapwood.
Many Osage trees have only a 1/4" of sapwood.
Cant tell for sure until it is cut.

The wood should be fine. The back of your bow is going to be more round than flat, and chasing a growth could be a challenge.
Keep us posted.
