im making a ash longbow and need some suggestions on what to back it with. i was thinking linen, silk, or possibly rawhide. what do you guys suggest. the bows draw weight will be 50 to 60lbs if that helps

Ash is excellent in tension and does not need a backing at all, UNLESS the back grain is violated. Why do you want to apply a backing? Is it a board or a split stave?

its a board bow, i just thought i would make it a bit more durable. do you think an ash board bow could pull say 55lbs w/o a backing???

Any of the backings will work for protection and all are easy to apply. I prefer rawhide but any will work just fine.
