Title: Hazel D bow in a Day
Post by: Del the cat on May 09, 2012, 04:36:18 pm
I set up my woodland workshop at the club for their 'Beltane' festival and made this little Hazel bow during the day.
It's 63.5" nock to nock.
47mm wide at widest, tapering to 13mm at the tips. narrowing to about 40mm at the grip (this will prob' get reduced further).
It was harvested and split in Jauary this year, but was a very thin piece, so I thought it would be good and quick for a demo'.
It was strapped up into about 4" reflex while it was seasoning
I only drew it to 24" on the day as I didn't want it to blow up. I've since tidied it up and taken it back to 28", watch the video, it's one heck of a bend for a skinny bit of Hazel.
Only about 35# draw weight but it's held some reflex and she feels pretty quick.
First time I've done a bend through the handle D bow and first time I've left one with the back au naturel.
Click on the picture of it on the tiller to pull up the video.
Click on the other pics to see 'em decent size.

Just awesome.  I love the bow.  There is something special about a simple bendy bow. Just beautiful.
I really like the out door portable shop too.  The traveling master bowyer is in town!
