i was peeling the bark from some hickory about a year back, and notixced that the underbark was ridiculously tough and stringy. has anyone tried to use it(the underbark) as a backing?

It tends to dry out, seperate from the wood and snap, crackle and pop and make noises that you don't want to hear coming from a bow :) Hickory inner bark makes good cordage and lashing material.
