Title: My First Osage Orange Bow!
Post by: PAHunter on April 19, 2012, 06:28:14 pm
When I was a kid…
It all started six months ago when my uncle teased me about my high tech bow and explained how they made their own bows when he was a kid.  That day I set a goal to make a bow I can hunt with.  Well six months and six bows later I have finally accomplished that!

The Bow
This is my first Osage Orange bow and came out at 53@28.  It has padauk tip overlays and is 64 inches nock to nock.

Thank you all so much!
You guys are great and are true craftsman and artists.  So many people to thank that helped along the way.  The generosity of this community still overwhelms me and is deeply appreciated!

Chris, let’s take down some deer with our padauk tipped Osage this year!

Time to Shoot!!!  ;D  ;D  :P

@Josh thanks man, can't wait to see yours!  best of luck!
@Bevan he's been on the road and has not yet seen my bows.  He should be back soon so it will be a proud day when I show them off.  He helped me cut the hickory log for my first bow before he left.
@Ryan thanks man, it's appreciated!
@Rich I can't wait!!  I created the primitive arrow but the stone point was a gift.  That's next on my to do list.

The look on your face in the last pic of your first post pretty much sums it all up :)  That's a hell of a bow - nice curves, and cool tip overlays.  I like how you shaped them!

@osage outlaw thanks man, the plan is to definitely put some brown down!
@PearlDrums Long live the king indeed!
@Josh  :P
@Cameroo thanks much!  I put a lot of work into the tips because it's an area i struggled with.  I'm very happy with the result as well.

A great looking piece of yeller wood and you did a great job on it.  Your in your own apprenticeship to becoming a master craftsman now!

Man that bow is awesome! Im sure you'll have a great time hunting with it. Nothing compares to hunting with your own handmade equipment. I got my first two stone point kills this year and it was beyond a rush!! Nothin like it man!! Let me know if you need a few more stone heads to hunt with. I'd be glad to send some your way. Thanks for sharing fella. Good luck :) :) :)

@lesken2011 thanks much.  I worked hard on the tips :)
@Jamie thank you.  I definitely have tons to learn.  But it's exciting now that I know some basics I'm anxious to get more creative with future designs!
@ErictheViking for sure!  Boyering may be my new passion but hunting is my life.  I'm so excited to hunt with weapons I created.  I am not cocky but I am confident in my skill as a hunter so with a little luck I will get that first primitive weapon kill this year!  I'll be filming my hunts too so hopefully I'll be able to share.
@Will I am already super stoked to go hunting with it.  Turkey is coming up!  I got a gobbler with a compound last year; let's see if I can do it with my osage now.  :)
@Chris you know it brother!  Season can't come quick enough!!

Nice one, looks real good, and so yellow!  ;)  I'll probably never get my hands on any osage, but I see everyone just seems to love it. Congratulations on this one, hope it'll serve you well.

but first and foremost: good luck hunting!

Great job!  I am putting the finishing touches on my first osage bow and know how you  feel.  Osage rocks...  I was a little giddy after the first few arrows were shot out of mine.  That is a fine looking bow.  I bet it's a sweet shooter.
