Here are a few of the recent bows I made, these are the shorty's that I'm teachin myself to shoot NA style instead of the upright, European style. The shortest is 37" and only 43# most are 46" to 48" and about 50/52# except the last one and that is a Kiowa 47" and probably 55/60 @ 25.....made for some big dude bown in Texas, figured he could post that one if he's so inclined.
All unbacked self bows, some are staves and some are edgegrain splits....woods are birch, elm, and osage.....

That one in pic 4 has gottta be almost a semi circle... love it ;D

More beauties from the short bow master.
-
Nice bows. Good to see you posting. Jawge
-
'bout time we saw some more of those >:D, those look great and i gotta agree with Del on that fourth bow, what a bend, Bub
-
thank you, fellas. When the wife is back home I can get some photo's of the woodland bows and add to the pile. Del, that bow is the one I killed my little 8 point with this year....just over 50# and put a stone head clean through him at about 15/16 yards or so. Thanks again fellas.

Beauties ! ' Frank
-
Those look great Rich. Love seeing the shorties you make.
-
Awesome bows Rich. THANK YOU for posting your work. We appreciate it more than you know buddy.
-
Well PD, they are real plain and utilirarian and like I said before I guess if ya seen one ya about seen 'em all...........
every now and then I will fall down and hurt my head (or the cement) and come up with a crazy idea, so here is a "full circle" with EARS on her....strangest thing I believe I've tried. The madness was to see what happens with a short "full circle" with a longer string angle.

Does it have good early tension? It looks fast.
-
All sweet, but that last is my absolute fave! Well done half-eye :)
-
Yes it does have good tension at brace, the bow is 49" total and @ ear is about 5" or so. While I hate to call it a static recurve the ears dont even start to open till the last inch or so. and the bow has about 7/8 to 1 inch of set. The wood is red elm, vertical grain split off the side of a "quarter".

winner winner chicken dinner ;D, heck 1" set on a 4" bow aint nouthin', nice one Rich, Bub
-
Very nice Rich! 8)
-
Love them ALL!!! Thanks for posting the pics.
-
About time Rich, thought you retired ;D
Great looking batch of bows but your wrong,,, yes they're utilitarian but Ohhhhh so pretty when drawn for business >:D
Well done!!
-
Ain't nothing "plain" about your bows and where the hell have
you been? Don't you know you are an inspiration to all of us
beginners ?
Beautiful bows Rich. I have a couple pics of a 12 year old girl
that carried one of your bows this past season. I will have to
post them. Good to see your stuff again.

Little beauties!
-
Good to see some more bows from you Rich! They all look good as usual. Where ya been? I was up your way last week.

-
Thanks again fellas, glad ya like them....no matter how I say it thought a picture of my "area" could explain why all the huntin equipment is sooooo short. This is a picture of a picture so excuse the quality.....this summer I'll get to the woods and take some better ones for ya.....round here if you aint in the water your in the "stuff"

cool lil sticks for a cool lil ole man ;)
-
Rich: Very nice, sir. I am partial to the osage bows myself!
-
you are most correct Mr. Matt....osage does want to get straight in a hurry and it's pretty hard to get it thin enough, that short, for the old guy to wrestle with.

Hey Rich, I'm sorry I haven't posted pictures of that Kiowa bow. I didn't do it right away, and then got tied up with Dad's heart trouble. I only took one picture of the bow so far, and it isn't very good, but at least it shows the cool paint job. It doesn't do justice to the horse hair on that top limb tip. Laid like it is the hair divides and makes a cool looking heart. I'll get more pictures later.

This beauty is at my place and will soon be auctioned off to raise money for the local food bank that I donate venison to. I will be adding 3 arrows with stone points to the bow and beautiful quiver Rich did. Thanks again Rich. And those are gorgeous bows you posted. I also like that last one, but the osage shorty is hard to beat. Good wood. :)

Superb little shorties Rich! Been missing your postings lately. Needed a Half eye fix ;)
-
Great lil' shorties Rich!
-
Thanks, again for the kind words everyone....Mr. G, just take care of yer dad, eh?

-
Awesome bows. I bet the one with the ears is smooth and fast. I love the paint job on the bow. Insanely perfect tillers all around. ;D
-
Rich, you make some great bows buddy.i really miss talking to ya.you are a wealth of information.i guess i'll have to give you a call.i hope you and yours are doing well.
-
jeez those are some nice bows. I always like to see your work
-
Very nice! Everyone of em looks dang lethal and handy to put into action. You're a bad influence on me Rich. Every time I see one of your bows, my next bow is shorter than the last one I made. Glad to see you put em up. Josh
-
I love those shorties. Thanks for your feedback on my hbi. Looks like I'll be making a shorty, too!!
-
HE'S BACK!!! HE'S BACK!!! Okay, I can rest now...the world is still spinning and everything is going to be okay. Got my half-eye fix...time for night-night ;D ;D ;D
Seriously beautiful bows sir! Love the "ears" both on the bow and that you are calling them "ears" in the first place. ;D
-
Amazing. So inspiring! I'm blown away at the exceptional tiller and how you are able to make such short bows work so well! Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
-
Those are gorgeous Rich. The first two real short ones are absolutely incredible. I wish I had the skill/ materials to make something like those.... You truly are an inspiration to me Rich. You and your bows have helped me to appreciate the beauty and power of these simple bendy bows, an have helped me to come into my own as a bowyer that focuses on these super simple bows. Thanks for that inspiration, and would like to meet ya some day.
Jon
-
lovely bows rich!
thanks for sharing em.
i too have missed you being around....
-
Man those are some seriously short bows. Did I read right that some of them are edge grained splits from staves?
-
Thanks ya'll appreciate the kind remarks....yes Dauntless you read right...before I built some stave bows all I ever built were edge grain....split or sawed from quarters then surfaced by machine.
Ifrit send me a pm and we'll see if we can get some edge grain to ya to play with
rich
-
Boy I love the bends on those shorties ... great job Rich.
Jon
-
that my friend is why i call you for advise !! , if there ever was a group of bows that are working for a living it these . stirs me when ones bent that way , as opposed to a long barely bending tiller. glad to see ya back posting ... you are a true master of your craft !!
-
great looking bows. Gets me fired up to try a few shorties as I have two osage staves that are 48" long. I little intimidated as the growth rings are so wide on this stuff.
-
Now THATS what I call tillering! Great job!
-
Great bunch of bow,man you can turn them out. :)
Pappy
-
Fine assembly of bows with lots of bend. Great job as usual Rich
Cipriano
-
Great work, they all look super but I like that last one's profile the most. I did a 47" HHB not too long ago and was surprised at how well I got it shooting accurately at 20 yds. They sure are much nicer to carry around.
-
Thank's again fellas, appreciate the comments from all of you.
Parnell, I think you are correct, I'm still learning but like ya said up to around 20 yards they are very deadly, and close shoot placement is very regular.
Pappy, C, Parnell.....Thank you much. Fellas these bows are just plain-jane.....they interest me because I'm trying to learn to live within any certain design and maybe get an idea what the original fellas was after.....and just maybe "why" they made 'em the way they did. In my neck of the woods, a lot of places are just flat-out thick and it's hard to believe but some places ya cant even see a deer at 15/20 yards so these bows work really well under those conditions......kinda like living within the bows limitations, eh?

More beauties from the short bow master.
He's not really that short. ;D
Nice to have ya back Mr. Always love to see your work.
Jeff
-
Nice bows Rich,.. good too see your still busy
-
Awesome little sticks as usual!!
Makes my most recent hickory "shorty" seem like a LONG bow at 52" tip-to-tip :o
-
Thank ya'll again.....except you Jeff >:D....
Matt, most of the 12-13 NA woodland bows I just finished up are about that exact size....either 50" (48 ntn) or 52" (50 ntn).....they are short so I dont know what yer talkin about 8)

Rich I miss drooling over all your wicked bows you make, you need to post more often!

Toomany....Ifrit....soon as the wife and granddaughter are back from their trip (should be home by Monday) I'll have the camera back and will shoot a few of the different one I have up to this point. I been holding off on the Potawatomii cause I've found 3 very distinct types they made and I'll save them for last, couple of 'em are gonna be buggers.
rich
-
Very nice! You have given me hope and ideas for a bunch of my wood that had damage under the bark...cant wait to give it a try thank you ;)
-
Those are all dandy boows Rich. You sure have those short replicas down. They all look like meat makers
-
I like 'em, Rich. I don't shoot at much over 15-20 yards and I like short bows.
-
... except the last one and that is a Kiowa 47" and probably 55/60 @ 25.....made for some big dude down in Texas, figured he could post that one if he's so inclined.

Sorry it's taken so long Rich, but here are pictures of the Kiowa bow and quiver.
