Title: quick tree i.d.
Post by: paulsemp on March 13, 2012, 08:27:10 pm
Guy next door was cutting down a tree, I check my book and it looks like hackberry. Am I right? If so I have never worked hackberry. Split, debark now, seal ends? Or leave bark on? If it is not hackberry, what is it?

My second favorite wood of all time. I doubt that bark will fall off for you. Im guessing peeling will be in order. Either way thats a nice score on some keeler wood.

Good lookin hackberry! Split em in half and then try to peel the bark, it might peel off in big pieces if the sap is up. I cut some a couple of days ago and the bark peeled like a banana, Im a little farther south than you though.
