Title: Duck and lesser Canadian feathers
Post by: criveraville on February 03, 2012, 12:31:51 am: We managed to harvest some ducks and I have duck feathers. They are the most beautiful and graceful looking feathers and seem to be water resistent as well.

Anyone ever use duck feathers for fletching? I have gadwell feathers.

The lesser Canadian feathers seem to be good, but they are not as pretty.

Post by: jonathan creason on February 03, 2012, 01:42:22 am: The goose feathers I have used haven't been quite as durable as turkey feathers, but i wouldn't hesitate to use them again. I haven't tried duck feathers yet, we mostly kill small ducks like woodies. I did have one good hunt this year and knocked out a few mallards but I was in a hurry and didn't save the primaries.

Post by: bowsandroses on February 03, 2012, 03:50:35 am: I use Canadian goose mostly it is my favorite, I did have some mallard feathers once they were great too. Yes they are water proof, even when shot in to a pond pull them out give a swift shake and their light dry ready to fly. My favorite hunt is late season black tail in Oregon, the water proof is why their my favorite.

Post by: crooketarrow on February 04, 2012, 11:30:28 am: After molt in June I have a few ponds lakes and a part I picked up for years. But my and friends gobbler kills are always first used for me. But goose in my second. I do pick up a couple duck but ducks don'y molt like geese and lose a lot of theirs while in flite.

How do you cook them? Bake, roast, etc. Where did you go to find enough water for ducks? The Saudis, will take plastic sheeting, and lay it out on the sand, where there is a flight path for migrating ducks, and when the ducks see the plastic, it looks like water, and they come in to investigate. Especially when there is a few decoys on it. Hey did you ever take the Turkey video to school? If so how did the Kids like it?
