Out walking today I found another good looking hickory, the pics are what they are,but from these three pics what is you impression of the grain in this tree?? I've cut many a tree like this assuming that the grain was straight only to find Its twisted....so have a stab at it !! (((CAUTION))) Your Input may affect the health of this tree!!! Ron

It may mean nothing but there looks to be a small twist in the bark@ the center of the tree. Either way you should investigate further because that tree looks like a mass producer(for fire wood if it proves tricky of bows If the grain runs straight. Good luck!

Cut it !

Its hard for me to tell with the pics sideways. It does look OK though.
If you can wait a few months removing the bark will be WAY easier. Once the leaves are out is the best time IMO.

ya id rock it for sure.

Looks good to me but I would do what Pat said on the timing of the cutting. :)

Looks good but listen to mat regarding the timing. Jawge

I'd try to find a vertical tree, those ones growing horizontally are just trouble ::).
